A mighty Fortress is our God

1
A mighty Fortress is our God,
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
2
Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth His Name,
From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
3
And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim,
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
4
That Word above all earthly powers,
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.

A great hymn of victory! It's full of the assurance of victory to those who trust in Him! Indeed a Mighty is our GGod, our strength, and indeed a very present help in times of trouble! Well composed! To God be the glory!

This hymn has it all! Let goods and kindred go... Yes, letting go is a battle with the devil whispering in my ear and controlling others that I love, but, a mighty fortress is our God!! Amen, thank you, Jesus

The older hymns have significant doctrinal value, and this one is no different. I sing this at times to the Lord as a form of praise and worship and remembrance of the victory we have.

The Lord brought this song to mind this morning as I contemplated the daily struggle I face in honoring the Father, not just in part -- but in every way. I was drawn to the word "bulwark." To think of God's faithfulness as a solid wall raised in our defense is so comforting. I find myself trying to fight off the enemy, single-handed. What a fool I can be! Praise God it's not my job to defeat Satan. The work is done -- and we all must trust, obey... and rest in His love.

This is my anthem in times of storm. A very encouraging hymn. Thank You Jesus Christ.

The Spirit brought this hymn to my mind this morning when I read Psalm 48:3. What a blessing! I sang to my Lord this morning😃. I am looking forward to seeing HIM face to face without worry or fear. He is MIGHTY!
