A mighty Fortress is our God,
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth His Name,
From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;

And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim,
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim,
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
And though this world, with devils filled,

That Word above all earthly powers,
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.
That Word above all earthly powers,
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:

God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.

Praise The Lord!! May He Be Glorified Through My Life, May I Exist to Glorify Him!!!

If memory serves, Luther sang this hymn as he marched to the cathederal at Weems. The bishops liked to invite Protestants for talks and then burn them at the stake. By then, Luther had enough military support to prevent that.

Let us all be in prayer daily for the strength and courage that was Martin Luther's. What a great servant of God. Hallelujah, Sing to Jesus!

Thank you for making this song available. It was on my lips when I woke this morning and I wanted to remember it correctly. I love the mighty message that our LORD is for us and He has already won the battle. May God richly bless you in your ministry.

I was watching a movie. It was the movie "Taken" and this reninded me of the hymns we learned growing up in church. Such a beautiful song that brings comfort.
i like this song! But instead of singing it how the song actually goes, I just made it into a rap song!!! plus it was easier to memorize because it was memory work in my LA class

Happy Reformation Day! 500 Years ...Light after Darkness. Praise God. I am so glad this morning that Luther's struggle with the darkness has brought light to so many. The work is not yet done. Press on.
