Sweet Will of God

1
My stubborn will at last hath yielded;
I would be Thine, and Thine alone,
And this the prayer my lips are bringing,
“Lord, let in me Thy will be done.”
  Sweet will of God, still fold me closer,
Till I am wholly lost in Thee;
Sweet will of God, still fold me closer,
  Till I am wholly lost in Thee.
2
I’m tired of sin, footsore and weary,
The darksome path hath dreary grown,
But now a light has ris’n to cheer me;
I find in Thee my Star, my Sun.
3
Thy precious will, O conqu’ring Savior,
Doth now embrace and compass me;
All discords hushed, my peace a river,
My soul a prisoned bird set free.
4
Shut in with Thee, O Lord, forever,
My wayward feet no more to roam;
What pow’r from Thee my soul can sever?
The center of God’s will my home.

I thought about this hymn after reading the commentary from "The Treasury of David" for Psalm 42.

I submit to His sovereign will.

Canby

This old hymn came to mind after reading some words from The Sacrament of the Present Moment by Jean-Pierre de Caussade. Translated by Kitty Muggeridge.

"Nothing is more reasonable, perfect or divine than the will of God.

No difference in time, place or circumstance could add to its infinite worth...."

Full excerpt is well worth contemplating!

This is a very powerful and comforting song. I have not heard it for a long time. I did not know the verses, only the chorus. Thank God I now know it. I love it dearly.

I sang this song in the early years of walking with the Lord. Today it has a very deep and stronger desire of my heart. It kept coming to me in prayer meetings. I could not remember all the words till I found it here today. Thank You Lord. I will make this my constant prayer. I just want to be totally lost in my Father's will. Amen
