I’ve found a Friend, oh, such a Friend

1
I’ve found a Friend, oh, such a Friend!
  He loved me ere I knew Him;
He drew me with the cords of love,
  And thus He bound me to Him.
And round my heart still closely twine
  Those ties which naught can sever,
For I am His, and He is mine,
  Forever and forever.
2
I’ve found a Friend, oh, such a Friend!
  He bled, He died to save me;
And not alone the gift of life,
  But His own self He gave me.
Naught that I have my own I call,
  I hold it for the Giver;
My heart, my strength, my life, my all,
  Are His, and His forever.
3
I’ve found a Friend, oh, such a Friend!
  So kind, and true, and tender,
So wise a Counsellor and Guide,
  So mighty a Defender!
From Him who loves me now so well,
  What power my soul can sever?
Shall life or death, or earth or hell?
  No? I am His forever.

I was reminded last night in our devotional reading from Our Daily Bread of this song. It took me back many years and I was reminded of God's greatness and faithfulness. Thank you.

FF Bruce (1910-1990), the great biblical scholar of Cambridge and Manchester quotes this hymn in his commentary on John 6:43-44. What wonderful truth clearly expressed.

I have been in a mental slump over the past couple of weeks and was just browsing for some hyms on the internet and came up with these classics. Thank God for using you and your ministry. The Holy Spirit is truly at work and the Lord has more than one way to reach a broken soul. My soul is lifted up this morning as I am reminded that I have a Friend, oh, such a Friend that loves so tenderly more than any human love that I am longing for. Will pray for you and your ministry as I ask for you to do the same. God bless. Maranatha!

I've been reading through some of these beautiful hymns and spending time praising, adoring and worshipping God. It's been a fantastic time!

I remember when I gave my life to the Lord when I was 8 the thing that lead me to this decision was the knowledge that Jesus would be my Friend who would be with me always! He has always proved to be that faithful and loving Friend He promised to be. He is willing to be your Friend too. O Jesus, I love You. Thank You. Blessings!

It is 6:30 in the morning & God put some words in my mind. So, to search for it I came to the computer. What a wonderful surprise to have the music reach my heart & ears the first thing in the morning. God seems to give me "songs in the morning". PTL

Today this song struck me hard. Though I sang it for long years since childhood, it has never brought me to tears until this morning in church. I see Jesus doing all the efforts to reaching out to me, I am overwhelmed by His sheer love - I am grateful as long as I have breath. Jesus is so amazing!

I grew up in Emmanuel Baptist Church, Warri-Nigeria. I was a chorister then, to God be the glory, the lyrics of the song inspired me so much that I love singing this song on a daily basis. It was among my wedding hymns.
