About Numbered Notation

Numbered Notation (also called Jianpu, 简谱) writes each melody note as a number from 1 to 7 instead of a note on a staff. The number shows the note's position in the song's scale -- not its exact pitch -- so the same tune looks identical no matter what key it's sung in.

Within one octave, the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 correspond to the familiar do re mi fa sol la ti. A dot above a number raises it an octave higher; a dot below lowers it an octave lower -- no dot means the middle, as-written octave.

A plain number lasts one beat. A dash (-) right after a number holds that same note for one more beat. A line underneath a number shortens it instead -- one line is half a beat, two lines a quarter of a beat. A 0 is a rest: silence for one beat.

The label at the top of the sheet, like "1=C" or "1=Ab", shows which pitch scale degree 1 ("do") is tuned to. A song in a minor key is labeled "6=X" instead -- scale degree 6 ("la") is the true tonic. Chord names printed above the notes (like "C" or "G7") always use their familiar letter names, never numbers.

For example, under a "1=C" heading, the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 sound as C D E F G A B. Under a "1=G" heading, those very same numbers sound as G A B C D E F# instead -- same shape, different key.

Camel Train

Hope of Glory The Wedding Day

English1318
1
’Twas a day in early springtime,
By an ancient wayside well,
Eliezer paused to rest his camel train.
He had found a bride for Isaac
Ere the evening shadows fell,
For his weary journey had not been in vain.

Oh, get ready! Evening shadows fall.
Don’t you hear the Eliezer call?
There’s going to be a wedding,
And our joy will soon begin,
In the evening when the camel train comes in.
2
So he took the fair Rebekah,
Dressed in jewels rich and rare,
Quickly to her waiting bridegroom far away.
Where Rebekah loved her Isaac,
And he loved Rebekah fair;
Oh, it must have been a happy wedding day.
3
Now the blessed Holy Spirit,
From our Father God above,
Has come down to earth to find a worthy Bride.
For our Isaac over yonder
Has prepared His tents of love,
And He wants His fair Rebekah by His side.
4
We have left our kinfolk gladly;
We have bade the world goodbye.
We’ve been called to be His pure and spotless Bride;
Where we’ll soon behold our Jesus
In that blest eternity—
What a happy, happy wedding that will be!

I heard this song sung by evangelist Ted Vibbert in the 50's. I believe it was 1947-1952, at Paseo Assembly of God Church-3238 Paseo Blvd. in Kansas City, Mo. It was obviously composed prior to the 70's. I am positive this occurred before my high school graduation in 1956. I believe it was composed by Rev. Hansel Vibbert around 1950, not in the 70's.

On the internet I've run across sites listing either James Asher, W. M. Lehman or Hansel Paul Vibbert as the writer of this great song. In listening to Jimmy Swaggart's cover, he says Vibbert was the writer. After doing a lot of research, I believe that Vibbert is the writer. It's important to me that the right person get their due credit. So if anyone is able to provide proof of someone other than Vibbert being the writer of this song, I would appreciate your sharing of the fact. Great song!!!

How wonderful to be Christ bride, we have to leave everything and embrace Him. Our reply just like Rebecca is that ‘I am willing to go with Him.’

To get Eliezer’s name you have to go to Genesis 15:2 where Abraham asks God if his servant is to be his heir. It says Abraham sent his oldest servant.

May we be those getting ready to meet our Bridegroom in the evening, at the close of this age!

But saints I have a question concerning Eliezer - I have been thinking this is the name of the old servant (from this song I sang before) but reading the book of Genesis Chapter 24 again this morning the name wasn’t there. Did I miss something or is there another portion about this record of seeking a wife for Isaac?

Not quite the way I was taught back in the 70's. Lyrics slightly different but still a fun song.

Thank you so very much for your help. I was finally able to download the song "Camel Train" and the music lines for it. My pastor will thank you too. It was at his request that I was trying to get it for him. He has been quite ill lately so that was also an extreme reason to try to get a copy for him. Again thank your for your help and may God Bless you for your kindness and may you prosper in this website.

Sincerely

Jo Ann Irons

Can the sheet music for these songs be printed, copied-pasted and printed. Or can they be bought. I have been looking for the song The Camel Train for my Pastor at his request and found it on your site. I have looked everywhere and the only one I could find other than here was for a choir and was about 8 or 10 pages. Our church is small and does not have a choir per-say. Thank you for any you can give.
