To Jesus every day we find our hearts are closer drawn

1
To Jesus every day we find our hearts are closer drawn;
He’s fairer than the sons of men and fresher than the morn;
He’s all that we can say of Him in fairest words and more,
And every day He’s dearer than He was the day before.
  The half cannot be fancied of such a treasure-store,
  And every day He’s dearer than He ever was before!
2
His glory broke upon us when we saw Him in the church,
For here are all His riches, here we’ve given up our search;
’Tis here He satisfies our longing spirits o’er and o’er,
And every day He’s dearer than He was the day before.
3
Now He’s the living Spirit who within our spirit dwells,
And by His sweet anointing, how His life within us swells!
As with the saints we’re meeting, full released our spirits soar,
For now our Lord is dearer than He ever was before.
4
The Lord has made us one with Him for His recovery:
The riches of this Christ, the church His fullness, men must see.
Yes, all we have and all we are, we every day outpour
For His tremendous purpose, ever dearer than before.

Billy, it means that there is SO MUCH of the Lord to enjoy that we won’t even hit the halfway mark if we enjoyed him every moment of everyday.

Can someone explain to me exactly what “half cannot be fancied” means? I think I have an idea but not too clear.

I often wonder about the saints who wrote these hymns, and their deep life in the Lord. This is the original hymn by William Stillman Martin, a pastor in Boston and in Florida, (1864-1914). The original already bears this wonderful thought, that Jesus becomes dearer each day, and this is really the sweetness that makes life worth living (v 1 last line).

To Jesus every day I find my heart is closer drawn,

He’s fairer than the glory of the gold and purple dawn;

He’s all my fancy pictures in its fairest dreams, and more,

Each day He grows still sweeter than He was the day before.

Refrain

The half cannot be fancied this side the golden shore;

O there He’ll be still sweeter than He ever was before.

His glory broke upon me when I saw Him from afar,

He’s fairer than the lily, brighter than the morning star;

He fills and satisfies my longing spirit o’er and o’er,

Each day He grows still sweeter than He was the day before.

Refrain

My heart is sometimes heavy, but He comes with sweet relief,

He folds me to His bosom when I droop with blighting grief;

I love the Christ who all my burdens in His body bore,

Each day He grows still sweeter than He was the day before.

Refrain

"And by His sweet anointing how His life within us swells.". When He anoints us, He is leading us to abide/remain in Him. When we yield to that, we enjoy more of His swelling, flowing life!
