This is the day

This is the day, this is the day.
That the Lord has made, that the Lord has made.
We will rejoice, we will rejoice,
And be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day
That the Lord has made.
We are the sons, we are the sons,
Of the living God, of the living God.
We will rejoice, we will rejoice,
And be glad in Him, and be glad in Him.
We are the sons of the living God.
We will rejoice and be glad in Him.
We are the sons, we are the sons
    Of the living God.

When my son was a young cub scout, he was invited by a friend to attend church for Scout Sunday. I joined him, and this was one of the hymns that was sung. I got embroidered into my soul, and occasionally returns to my thoughts. I believe it returns to me like it did this morning, when God thinks I need that reminder. With COVID-19 affecting so many, it is a good time to remember God’s blessings to us, and to be conscientious to all in these unusual times. Be good to each other...

I woke up last Friday absolutely dreading the day. My heart was hard toward God for giving me a difficult day ahead. Tough meetings, sermon prep, errands, there wasn't enough time and emotions to go around. Anxiety was big.

Then my wife and I sang this song and I was reminded, admonished to rejoice. Our Father in heaven has never given a bad gift and if today seems like a bad gift it's only because I don't know what I need.

"This is the day that the LORD has made (resolve) I will rejoice and be glad in it!"

For long I thought this praise song to my God and Saviour Jesus Christ was only concerning Sunday, the day Christians set aside for corporate worship.

But today I saw that EVERY day is a day the Lord has made.

In the Genesis true account of creation, the heavens and the earth were created in 6 days, and on the seventh the Lord rested.

In our time, God is still creating, but now creating saved people out of sinners (2 Corinthians 5 verse 17). Every born again Christian is a new creation by God. Their spiritual rebirth (born AGAIN - John 3 verse 3) is a creation of a new life in the family of God. A sinner becomes a child of God by repentance and faith in the gospel (Mark chapter 1).

God loves His people, chosen in Him before the foundation (creation) of the world (Ephesians 1). Repentance is evidenced by a person stopping sinning and unbelief by the help of God (John 15 or 16) and Ephesians 2 verse 7 and 8).

When a born again Christian looks back to the fau of their salvation (which is another consequence of being born again), they may sing 'This is the day I was born again, I was born again). All born again Christians can celebrate TWO birthdays...... their natural birth by their earthly parents AND their spiritual birth by the Holy Spirit, which happens some time AFTER their natural birth.

Finally John 1 verse 12 tells us we are not children of God by outward means, but by the Holy Spirit. Reading the bible, praying, church rituals do not make us children of God. Only birth by the Holy Spirit makes us Christians.

Not the one I am searching for. The refrain of the hymn I am searching for is: This is the day that the Lord has made, Alleluia

Be glad this day and every day, allelu, alleluia

Part of a verse, the best I can remember, is:

Praises sing to Christ our King, who's risen as He said

From now on, we'll live anew,

As we have been led......
