My goal is God Himself, not joy, nor peace, Nor even blessing, but Himself, my God; ’Tis His to lead me there—not mine, but His— At any cost, dear Lord, by any road.

So faith bounds forward to its goal in God, And love can trust her Lord to lead her there; Upheld by Him, my soul is following hard Till God hath full fulfilled my deepest prayer.

No matter if the way be sometimes dark, No matter though the cost be oft-times great, He knoweth how I best shall reach the mark, The way that leads to Him must needs be strait.

One thing I know, I cannot say Him nay; One thing I do, I press towards my Lord; My God my glory here, from day to day, And in the glory there my great Reward.
Love can trust her Lord to lead her there. Lord, wherever "there" is, that's my deepest prayer. By any road, as long as You are my goal, that's what I want. Lord Jesus, I love You.
Lord open us for Your dispensing every secend to enjoy You, absorb You, to be filled by You, we want Your mind, Your emotion and will be realized in us, only You are absolute, only You have single heart, only You have God as only goal, allow us to give You the ground in us, saturate us that we may fully be like You in life, in nature. Gain us in such a way, oh precious One we long to be like You.
Sweet remembrances of when I learned this new tune with the college saints on a blending trip in 1998...especially touching at this time while my father in law is going to be with the Lord...
Amen! There's a brother who is going to graduate from the FTTA this term, really loves this hymn. He loves this hymn because it says,"My goal is God Himself, not joy nor peace, nor even blessing, but Himself, my God,..." I really enjoy this hymn too. It leads me to the question, "How many times have I been thinking about the Lord as my unique goal?" I repent and now return, cause my heart for You to burn,... One thing I know, I cannot say Him nay; One thing I do, I press towards my Lord; My God my glory here, from day to day, and in the glory there my great Reward. *****
