Lord, breathe Thy breath of life upon me

The Church Her Building

1
Lord, breathe Thy breath of life upon me,
I’m as a bone disjoined and dry;
O may Thou quicken and restore me
And with Thy Body unify.
2
Lord, breathe Thy breath of life upon me,
My spirit is so bound and slow;
O break my shackles and release me,
To mingle in Thy Body’s flow.
3
Lord, breathe Thy breath of life upon me,
My burdened spirit cannot rise;
May Thou encourage and revive me
To share Thy Body’s full supplies.
4
Lord, breathe Thy breath of life upon me,
My barren spirit has no joy;
O may Thou satisfy and bless me,
Thy Body’s riches to enjoy.
5
Lord, breathe Thy breath of life upon me,
To me a true dependence give;
Deal with my death and isolation,
That in Thy Body I may live.

I appreciate this Hymn —it mentions the Body in every verse—“quicken, restore and with thy Body unify! ”

In the Body are all of the riches and the full supply!

No matter how many good things we intend to do, no matter how burdened we are for this or that aspect of the church life, and no matter how great is the need for the gospel, shepherding, visitation, blending, etc, we need to learn to be dependent on the Lord and dependent on the Body.

Lord, breathe Thy breath of life upon me,
To me a true dependence give;
Deal with my death and isolation,
That in Thy Body I may live.

I love the words but I don’t know the music. I guess the reason why is the hymnal was 1200 pages. There are many pages I’ve never turned. I doubt if very many saints even know even 200 of them.

This hymn is so sweet, filled with so many prayer burdens.
