My hope is built on nothing less

Assurance and Joy of Salvation Justified in Christ

English298
1
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
2
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
3
His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
4
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
In Him, my righteousness, alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Hi Lisa, thank you for asking that question. It caused me to consider the meaning of that phrase "the sweetest frame". I even looked it up in the dictionary. I think it means don't trust the sweetest situation or circumstance that you're in. But even in the sweet situation or "sweetest frame"" we still need to wholly lean on Jesus' name.

What do the lyrics mean when it says, "I dare not trust the sweetest frame"?

No other grounds... only my solid Rock Jesus Christ. Found this song while sitting at the hospital bed of my 99 year old patient

A song that touches and soul uplifting too. Truely on Christ the solid rock we the children stand outside is sinking sand. Praise God.

I really appreciate and thank God for making me always stand on Christ the Solid Rock. It gives inner joy each time I sing this song meditatively.

The world is sinking sand. I am so thankful for a Savior that has placed my feet on solid ground through His sacrifice! This hymn has been a blessing to me, and an over abundance of Gods children around the world, I see!! 💕
