Glory be to Jesus

Praise of the Lord His Redemption

English115
1
Glory be to Jesus,
Who in bitter pains
Poured for me the life-blood
From His sacred veins.
2
Grace and life eternal
In that Blood I find;
Blest be His compassion,
Infinitely kind.
3
Blest through endless ages
Be the precious stream,
Which from endless torments
Did the world redeem.
4
Abel’s blood for vengeance
Pleaded to the skies;
But the blood of Jesus
For our pardon cries.
5
It the conscience sprinkles,
Frees our guilty hearts;
Satan in confusion
Terror-struck departs.
6
Oft as earth exulting
Wafts its praise on high,
Angel-hosts rejoicing
Make their glad reply.
7
Lift ye then your voices;
Swell the mighty flood;
Louder still and louder
Praise the precious blood.

(Heb. 10:29; 13:20 2. “The blood of the covenant”;

“The blood of an eternal covenant”).

The blood of the Lord not only redeems us from our sins, but it also establishes a covenant with us that requires God to forgive our sins, grace us, and accomplish all His promises to us. Thus, the blood of the Lord is not only redeeming blood but also the blood of the covenant. The Lord’s blood established a new covenant for us, an eternal covenant. Therefore, this blood is called the blood of an eternal covenant. The new covenant cannot be annulled, because the Lord’s blood is eternally efficacious; it is not a temporary covenant established by the blood of calves and goats, which was effective only in type for a time.

All the grace and blessings given to us by God are included in the new covenant and are given to us in the execution of the new covenant. This new covenant has been established and is efficacious because the Lord shed His blood through death, fully satisfying God’s righteous requirement. This means that God must grace us. Thus, the Lord’s blood established a new covenant for us and made this new covenant efficacious.

THE MEANS FOR RECEIVING ETERNAL LIFE

1. “Jesus therefore said... He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life”(John 6:53-54).

Because the Lord’s blood washed us of our sins, it enabled us to obtain God’s holy life, which is God Himself as the eternal life. God gives us His eternal life because the Lord shed His blood for us. The Lord’s blood is the means for us to receive God’s eternal life.

The hymnal editions I’m using omit verses 4&5, in an effort, I believe, to emphasize God’s action through the sacrificial love/blood of Jesus rather than our human sin (vengeance, etc).

This one of my dad's favorite Catholic hymn's. His name is Sir Bertrand Igbokwe and he is 104yrs and has an awesome voice even in his old age. He remembered a few lines and I googled the enter hymn and was too happy to get all the lyrics plus the tune.

Dad sang it so many times. Thank you so much and God bless you all Amen.

One of my grandfather's favorites. My mother just told me and sang what she could remember to me. My grandfather loved to sing the hymns. We miss him but have these fond memories. Thank God.
