Thy Word is like a storehouse, Lord

Your Word dear Lord, has a thousand rays of light,
That guides me as a traveler, and makes my pathway bright.
Your Word is like an armory, for life’s long battle day,
As needful weapons for me to use, the enemy to slay.
O we love Your precious Word,
We explore it like a mine;
We take all its glorious riches,
So that light upon us shine.
Your Word becomes our trusty sword,
To fight with every foe;
This battle that is of Your, Lord,
And of Your overcomers too!

Thy Word is a lamp to my feet.

“O may I love Thy precious Word,
May I explore the mine,
May I its glorious riches take,
May light upon me shine. ”

“Thy word is like a deep, deep mine... ”

This implies that the word of God is waiting for us and calling to us to mine it’s riches! Let us all go into the mine and spend time there, as much as needed, until we find some jewels hidden there.

While searching the Web, a site puts forth these four lines as the first lines of stanza 1:

Thy Word is like a garden, Lord,
With flowers bright and fair;
And every one who seeks may pluck
A lovely cluster there.

A garden versus a storehouse is really different. The more I get into these variations, I cannot help but appreciate the labor of the brothers before us to present hymns that are more in line with truth and therefore are more meaningful. Praise the Lord!

"...With simple, child-like hearts." Very important yet often neglected. We truly need to be simple.
