Fade, fade each earthly joy

1
Fade, fade each earthly joy;
  Jesus is mine.
Break every tender tie;
  Jesus is mine.
Dark is the wilderness,
Earth has no resting place,
Jesus alone can bless;
  Jesus is mine.
2
Tempt not my soul away;
  Jesus is mine.
Here would I ever stay;
  Jesus is mine.
Perishing things of clay,
Born but for one brief day,
Pass from my heart away;
  Jesus is mine.
3
Farewell, ye dreams of night;
  Jesus is mine.
Lost in this dawning bright;
  Jesus is mine.
All that my soul has tried
Left but a dismal void;
Jesus has satisfied;
  Jesus is mine.
4
Farewell, mortality;
  Jesus is mine.
Welcome, eternity;
  Jesus is mine.
Welcome, O Loved and Blest,
Welcome, sweet scenes of rest,
Welcome, my Savior’s breast;
  Jesus is mine.

Reminds of my brother Charlie Moyo at City Centre Bulawayo, he used to love this song and every time I hear it, I think of how far GOD has brought since we were youths in the late 80s

Whenever I hear/play this song, I feel light and eased. I see pivotal reasons to keep it rather simple here on earth but focus on my communion with Jesus Christ even hereafter. -Relishing the possible peace and joy of heaven above!

This song always draws my attention to heaven and endears my heart to Jesus.

It's a wonderful song and keep on reminding me that all the pleasures of life is in vain. The only joy we should aspire for is heavenly one.

Jane Catharine Lundie wrote this hymn in 1843. She married famed Scottish preacher and hymn writer Horatius Bonar that same year. Though he was thirteen years her senior, they had a loving marriage, and fruitful ministry together for over four decades. She wrote other hymns, but Mrs. Bonar is chiefly remembered for this one, originally entitled “Jesus, All in All.”

Many years ago, when a young pastor lay dying, he urged those gathered around his bed not to weep for him, but rather to sing a hymn. And this was the hymn he asked for. As he passed into eternity, and into the presence of his Saviour, the hymn was sung (though tearfully). - Wordwise Hymns - Robert Cottrill

Just found out that this is Samuel Morris' favorite hymn. Read from Samuel Morris by Lindley Baldwin, a very inspiring biography of a dear African brother.

Can anyone tell me about the story of this hymn...I got deep inspiration through the song. It strengthens me when I'm in a critical time...

Bartho

I love this song dearly. Farewell mortality, welcome eternity for Jesus is mine.
