My faith looks up to Thee

1
My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
  Savior Divine;
Now hear me while I pray;
Take all my guilt away;
Oh, let me from this day
  Be wholly Thine.
2
May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
  My zeal inspire;
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
  A living fire.
3
While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
  Be Thou my Guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
  From Thee aside.
4
All thru life’s transient dream,
Until death’s sullen stream
  Shall o’er me roll,
Blest Savior, with Thy love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Make me Thy grace to prove
  Transform my soul.

I am so grateful I had the opportunity to sing hymns at our school assemblies as a child, it brings wonderful memories of the love and protection from God as a child and wonderfully still my faith continues to rely heavily on Gods amazing love. Thank you God for the gift of life and the journeys that has come with it.

My faith continues to look up to you Lord

In his early 20s, Ray Palmer wanted to enter the ministry. But at this young age, he already felt exhausted and burnt out. Working at a dry-goods shop, studying at Yale, and teaching at a girls’ school, what he really wanted to do was to become a minister. But his schedule left him drained and depressed. One day, he chanced upon a friend, Lowell Mason, who was a musician and hymn-writer. On a lark, Mason asked his friend, Ray, if he wanted to contribute something towards a hymnal that Mason was putting together. Not having intended it for public use, Palmer sometime earlier, in a moment of despair, had composed the words of “My Faith Looks up to the Thee“. Showing these words to Mason, somewhat apologetically, Palmer was surprised to hear these words coming from his friend: “Ray, you may do many different things in your life, but I dare say that you will one day be the best remembered for these very words in your hymn “My Faith Looks up to Thee. ” Mason knew talent and inspiration when he saw it… and his prophecy turned out to be true! Though Palmer went on to enter the ministry, and wrote other hymns as well. He will always be associated with his first hymn, written ar a very low and lonely point in his life.
