Standing on the promises of Christ my King

I will not be moved, because I am standing on the promises of God

This is my first of hearing this hymn song
But I felt like I was singing with angel in heaven
Though I came to church with alot of thinking 🤔
But as a I heard this song , am full of joy .
And that makes me believe that "GOD IS WITH ME".

I am surely standing in the promises of God my Savior, it makes me feel comforted whenever troubled.

Sometimes I'm weak sometimes it seems all hope is lost but Lord I'm standing on your promises.

Both this hymn and the tune were written by Russel Kelso Carter born November 18, 1849 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was brought up in a Christian environment but struggled with a personal decision for Christ until he was 15. At the time he had attended a prayer meeting at his military academy and committed his life to the Lord, where his parents were present to watch his conversion. He began attending meetings where the Bible was read and studied and as a result, grew spiritually over the next few years. After graduating from the Pennsylvania Military Academy in Chester Maryland, in 1867, he became an instructor there in 1869. He was commissioned as a Captain in the Pennsylvania State Line and is often referred to as Captain Carter in his writings.

Carter was a professor of chemistry and natural sciences while teaching. In 1872, He began to have heart trouble. Then in 1876 he went to California for three years as a sheep rancher to try and strengthen his health. In 1879 He returned to his parents’ house in a state of almost collapse. He had heard of Charles Cullis in Boston and decided to try healing by Faith. He prayed that God would heal him and then took a trip to see Charles. He was healed and when he returned three days later, he went back to work at the military academy and became a professor of civil engineer and advanced mathematics.

In 1879 he began attending Methodist meetings and struggled with their emphasis and the sanctification experience and about it and asked God to give him everything from the Bible. Then he had an experience which filled him with the Spirit in a new way. In 1880 he wrote “Miracles of Healing“. In 1882 he held a convention to cover the subject of divine healing. His premise was that healing was in the atonement and the Jesus not only took our sins but our sickness on the cross then in 1886 he began publishing a periodical called “The Kingdom.” He had a strong musical ability and wrote hymns in “Promises of Perfecto Love“ with John Sweeney in 1886 and “ Hymns of the Christian Life” together with a B Simpson. One of the most famous songs is “Standing on the Promises.”

In 1888 Carter had an attack of malaria fever. He was sick for two weeks and recovered. However, he was left feeling chronically weak. He was eventually prayed for by Charles Collins, A. B. Simpson, and John Alexander Doy. He not only struggled with his physical health, but with his wife’s mental health as well.

He moved to California around 1897 and an 1898. Carter became very elegant and was diagnosed with tuberculosis because of the medical advancements at the time he was healed in 90 days. Carter evidently received medical training at the Baltimore area as he is listed as a physician in the 1900 Federal Consensus. Kelso also continued his work as a doctor until he died on August 23, 1928, in Catonsville, Maryland. He is buried in the Greenmount cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. It is now that I know what it means to stand on His word.

When all hope is lost, and when everything seems not working... I have nothing left to hope for except HIS PROMISES. I ONLY STAND ON HIS WORD RIGHT NOW. THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS ME GOING.

No matter how long it takes, I’ll keep standing on God’s promises.
