Give me a sight, O Savior

E159 T159
1
Give me a sight, O Savior,
Of Thy wondrous love to me,
Of the love that brought Thee down to earth,
To die on Calvary.

Oh, make me understand it,
Help me to take it in,
What it meant to Thee, the Holy One,
  To bear away my sin.
2
Was it the nails, O Savior,
That bound Thee to the tree?
Nay, ’twas Thine everlasting love,
Thy love for me, for me.
3
Oh, wonder of all wonders,
That through Thy death for me,
My open sins, my secret sins,
Can all forgiven be.
4
Then melt my heart, O Savior,
Bend me, yea, break me down,
Until I own Thee Conqueror,
And Lord and Sov’reign crown.

Deep and searching words in the third verse..

My open sins, my secret sins..

Can all forgiven be.

Psalm 139 comes to mind. There is nothing hidden from Almighty God. He sees it all. King David was deceived into thinking that he had gotten off after taking another man's wife. But on his confession he was forgiven but paid a heavy price as his family life was destroyed. O the perils of infidelity. How rich and free is the grace of God. But we all need to repent, confess and tell the truth. Repentance is an ongoing work. Almighty God will never compromise on his purity and Holiness.

In this brief life it is good for us to attempt to take it in, but truthfully eternity may not long enough for us to do so.

The chorus of this hymn came to mind as I read Luke 22.63-65 in J B Phillips version, "Then the men who held Jesus made a great game of knocking him about. And they blindfolded him and asked him, "Now, prophet, guess who hit you that time! " And that was only the beginning of the way they insulted him."

What a wonderful and challenging Hymn especially as we approach Easter.

How much do we really understand of the cost for our Salvation!

This is also my favourite song to sing amongst so many others early in the morning to my Lord.

This was one of my mother's favourite hymns and sung at her funeral 11 years ago---only a year after I found out I had a 'full' - not half or step sister after over 50 years of not knowing! Indeed, her secret sin as no-one in her close Christian family circle knew; my grandfather being an evangelist who lived 'by faith.'

I love this hymn. It speaks to me of God's love for me and of the desire to reciprocate that by crowning Him sovereign in my life
