I am the vine
I am the vine
I am the vine, You are the branches; He who abides in Me And I in him, He bears much fruit, For apart from Me, Apart from Me You can do nothing. |
|
Abide in Me And I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself Unless it abides In the vine So neither can you unless you abide in Me. |

I enjoyed this prayer from the life study of Exodus message 4 on the type of life useful to God:
We need to pray, “Lord, apart from You, I can do nothing. I must abide in You and take You as my life. Daily I need to eat the tree of life. Lord, I want to live a ‘female’ life, a life that always depends on You. ” This is the kind of life God can use for the fulfillment of His purpose.

To me, this is one of the most profound bits of scripture. We are branches, inexorably joined to and indistinguishable from Christ the Vine. Without this organic union, we not only can do nothing, we are nothing.
