1
O the riches of my Savior,
  So unsearchable, immense;
All the fulness of the Godhead
  I may now experience.

O the riches, O the riches,
  Christ my Savior has for me!
How unsearchable their measure,
    Yet my full reality!
2
O the riches of my Savior,
  All-embracing: life and light,
Wisdom, power, healing, comfort,
  Treasures rich of God’s delight;
3
God’s redemption, full salvation,
  And His resurrection pow’r,
Sanctifying, glorifying,
  All transcending every hour!
4
O the riches of my Savior—
  Nothing less than God as all!
All His person and possessions,
  Now my spirit doth enthrall.
5
O the riches of my Savior!
  Who can know their breadth and length,
Or their depth and height unmeasured,
  Yet they are my joy and strength.
6
May I know these boundless riches,
  Christ experience in full;
And with others may I share them
  In their content bountiful.

THE UNSEARCHABLE

RICHES OF CHRIST

-------------------

Ephesians is a profound book. In chapter 3 Paul first speaks of the unsearchable riches of Christ (v. 8). Then he goes on to pray that we may be able to comprehend, or apprehend, with the saints the dimensions of Christ (v. 18). This is to know the breadth, the length, the height, and the depth of the universe. These four dimensions are an illustration of Christ’s unlimitedness. What is the height of the universe? How high is the height? No one can measure it. How long is the universe? Can you measure the length? How broad is the breadth, and how deep is the depth? No one can measure this. These dimensions are used by Paul to speak of the unlimitedness of Christ. Christ is not only rich in what He is; He is also immeasurable in His dimensions. This is marvelous. Whenever I come to such a point, I am in trembling that I may miss the mark due to the shortness of human language, the lack of the adequate expression to tell others what the riches of Christ are. By the Lord’s mercy I began to see this about forty years ago. But whenever I spoke on the unsearchable riches of Christ, I regretted that I was so short in the human utterance. In my speaking, I was not so adequate to itemize all the riches of Christ.

Seeing the Unsearchable

Riches of Christ

------------

I would like to impress you that Paul in Ephesians 3:8 says that the “unsearchable riches of Christ” have been shown to him. This verse begins with the phrase to me. When I was young and read this, I would say, “I am not that ‘me. ’ That is Paul. He is too great. ‘To him’ is okay but not ‘to me. ’” But Paul says, “To me. ” This “me” is “less than the least of all saints. ” He was the “leastest, ” yet this grace was given to him to announce the unsearchable riches of Christ as the gospe

Praise the Lord, we have righteousness, sanctification, holiness, and justification by absorbing the riches of Christ, the soil into whom we’re rooted! Praise the Lord, in Christ we have no lack! Hallelujah 😀

We have such a rich Christ. We can admire these riches. We can hear about these riches. We can even talk about these riches without ever experiencing them. These riches are nothing less than God himself. The first 5 verses of this hymn are subjective comprehending and experiencing all these riches, even though we only have a portion of them.

The last verse is the highest verse of them all. Here we really see we must desire to know Christ, not just for ourselves , but for others. Here is the church life where we share our riches of Christ with others, even our neighbors. Now in this environment we can experience this bountiful supply and begin to see the vast dimensions of Christ expressed in His body.

Hallelujah! Unsearchable! Nothing less than God Himself! May we know these boundless riches, and experience Christ in full! So subjective! Day by day experience!

Oh praise the Lord! "Originally, all the riches were contained in God, but now they become our enjoyment to such an extent that they overflow to express the riches of our enjoyment of Christ." Crystallization-study of the Gospel of John.

Christ our saviour is so rich... Thank you Lord for being our good land so full of riches .... and they never run but overflow. You are so near we can eat and drink of you daily.

We must confess, however, that in our daily living we are short of the experience of the Lord as the great I Am. Although we enjoy singing the hymn about the riches of Christ (Hymns #542), day by day we may still be in poverty. How much do you experience God as Jehovah? It is rather easy to know Him by the name El Shaddai and to declare that He is rich, almighty, and all-sufficient. However, it is quite another thing to have the real experience of the I Am. If we would know God by the name Jehovah, we must have experience. Otherwise, we shall be like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who knew this name without having any experience of it.

Our hymnal includes over eight hundred pieces collected from more than ten thousand pieces from different sources. After collecting these top Christian songs, we felt there was a big shortage of hymns on the things that the Lord has shown us in this half century and on the things we have experienced. Hymn 542 was written at the time we were preparing the hymnal. The chorus says:

O the riches, O the riches,

Christ my Savior has for me!

How unsearchable their measure,

Yet my full reality!

In writing verse 2, I tried to itemize some of the riches: "life and light, wisdom, power, healing, comfort, treasures rich of God's delight." Then verse 3 says:

God's redemption, full salvation,

And His resurrection pow'r,

Sanctifying, glorifying,

All transcending every hour!

Verse 4 says:

O the riches of my Savior-

Nothing less than God as all!

It is easy to say, "Nothing less than God as all," but what is the "all"? Verse 4 continues:

All His person and possessions,

Now my spirit doth enthrall.

Still, not many riches are itemized. Verses 5 and 6 continue:

O the riches of my Savior!

Who can know their breadth and length,

Or their depth and height unmeasured,

Yet they are my joy and strength.

May I know these boundless riches,

Christ experience in full;

I thank the Lord that, even though we are still so short in many ways, He, for His own sake, has spread His recovery, with His riches, to more than two thousand cities throughout the earth. When the Israelites went back to Jerusalem, they were stirred up, they rose up, they went up, and they brought up 5,400 vessels of gold and silver (Ezra 1:7-11). These were the vessels which Nebuchadnezzar had brought out from Jerusalem and had put in the house of his gods. During the first return from the captivity, all these vessels were brought back to Jerusalem. Those vessels are types of the riches of Christ. After I came to this country, I released messages on the riches of Christ, and I also wrote a hymn on the unsearchable riches of Christ (Hymns, #542). In Ephesians 3:8 Paul speaks not only of Christ's riches but of Christ's unsearchable riches. Today the enjoyment of the riches of Christ is by His word.

Today our gospel preaching is the preaching of Christ. To preach Christ is to tell people who and what Christ is. From stanzas 2 and 3 of the Chinese Hymns, #403, we can find at least fourteen items of the riches of Christ. [The English version of this hymn, Hymns, #542, contains twelve items.] First it says, "O the riches of my Savior, / All-embracing…." Then it goes on to list these riches: life, light, wisdom, power, healing, peace, joy, complete redemption, full salvation, justification, sanctification, release, resurrection power, and transcendence, for a total of fourteen items...
