O Jesus, I have promised
D
O Jesus, I have
A
promised
To
A7
serve Thee to the
D
end;
Be
B7
Thou forever
Em
near me,
My
E7
Master and my
A
Friend;
I
D
shall not fear the
A
battle
If
A7
Thou art by my
D
side,
Nor
B7
wander from the
Em
pathway
If
D
Thou wilt
A7
be my
D
Guide.
2
Oh, let me feel Thee near me;
Oh, let me feel Thee near me;
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.
D
Oh, let me feel Thee
A
near me;
The
A7
world is ever
D
near;
I
B7
see the sights that
Em
dazzle,
The
E7
tempting sounds I
A
hear;
My
D
foes are ever
A
near me,
A7
Around me and
D
within;
But,
B7
Jesus, draw Thou
Em
nearer,
And
D
shield my
A7
soul from
D
sin.
3
Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
To hasten, or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.
D
Oh, let me hear Thee
A
speaking,
In
A7
accents clear and
D
still,
B7
Above the storms of
Em
passion,
The
E7
murmurs of
A
self-will;
Oh,
D
speak to reassure
A
me,
To
A7
hasten, or
D
control;
Oh,
B7
speak, and make me
Em
listen,
Thou
D
Guardian
A7
of my
D
soul.
4
O Jesus, Thou hast promised
O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.
D
O Jesus, Thou hast
A
promised
To
A7
all who follow
D
Thee
That
B7
where Thou art in
Em
glory
There
E7
shall Thy servant
A
be;
And
D
Jesus, I have
A
promised
To
A7
serve Thee to the
D
end;
Oh,
B7
give me grace to
Em
follow,
My
D
Master
A7
and my
D
Friend.
5
Oh, let me see Thy footmarks,
Oh, let me see Thy footmarks,
And in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly
Is in Thy strength alone.
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end;
And then to rest receive me,
My Savior and my Friend.
D
Oh, let me see Thy
A
footmarks,
And
A7
in them plant mine
D
own;
My
B7
hope to follow
Em
duly
Is
E7
in Thy strength
A
alone.
Oh,
D
guide me, call me,
A
draw me,
A7
Uphold me to the
D
end;
And
B7
then to rest
Em
receive me,
My
D
Savior
A7
and my
D
Friend.

Have known this hymn way back from my secondary school days.
It makes more meaning to me these days as I can now understand properly the depth and meanings of the words there in.
Nairobi, Kenya
My most favourite hymn a while in secondary school.
Nairobi, Nyandarua, Kenya
Praise Him, this is our local Church anthem, "Jesus we have promised to serve The end". Please be near me. Amen.
Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa
Remembered the first 4 lines of this song for many years. Read or sang or heard it in 1972 in the Salvation Army Krugersdorp.
Now, during May 2017, the words came to mind and being back in the Salvation Army, I grabbed the Hymn Book and found the full song!! O how true the words are and became!! I broke my promises. Many times and in many ways. But Jesus never did.
As stated in the song and in any way and regard Jesus performed His promise.
Thank You Lord.

I learnt this hymn in school, many years ago. Now it's more meaningful to me, I love it more.
West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Prompted by the Holy Spirit to look up the words I used to sing as a chorister. They mean so much more to me now at 65. Thank You Lord for these inspired words. Amazing God is touching the hearts even us more senior people. Praise Him forever! Amen.

My song of songs. My heartfelt song as a child and still speaks volumes to me today.
Lusaka, Zambia
I absolutely love this hymn...learnt it some 30 years ago and it still resonates.

This is my Favourite Hymn from my Childhood it always filled my heart with Joy, Would Love to know how easy it would be to transpose this to a Ukulele.
Thank you for posting. Bless you.

Powerful hymn. I learnt it when I was young. Now in 50's the Holy Spirit has just reminded of it.
