I was asked to take up a prayer meeting with the Elders of the church in our Joint Leadership meeting. The Spirit of the Lord just whisper to me that you are all Channels only. The Lord's love has laid hold of us, saved and cleansed us to be used as channels of blessings to the body of Christ. Oh what a privilege.
Lyrics by Mary E. Maxwell- published in the 1900’s. Music by Ada Rosa Gibbs. Born October 5th, 1864, White Chapel, England. Died April 16th, 1905, Bromley Kent, England.
Gibbs studied at the Royal Academy of Music for Five years. Around 1890, she began to work for the Salvation Army. She also sang in D. L. Moody’s Evangelistic Missions and was part the Keswick Convention Movement. She was married on August, 1898 to William James Gibbs at one time Superintendent of the Methodist Central Hall in Bromley Kent.
The Lord has just graciously use my wife and I to be a channel to bless a ministry. Really a channel to link the ministry in need to a donor who met the felt need. When that was achieved this song I learnt over fifty years ago poped to my mind. Remembering only some lines with nowhere to find the song, I turn to Goggle and to my pleasure I found it. Thank you very much.
I also awakened with this song this morning after not hearing it for perhaps 40 years--so beautiful and expressive of our experience of God's Spirit which comes to us in our sleep with just the right words.
Thank you Anonymous, I had this song when I woke up too. For some reasons I thought the chorus went "vessels only blessed Master..."
Keep on singing, songs get deep down in our being, then in time of need, just as a deep well, it will spring forth living waters to refresh us and those who hear.....
We are not in a movement. According to Hymns, #268, we are channels for God's Spirit to flow through us into others. If we visit the new ones in their homes every week, what is deposited into them will be with them for the rest of their lives. Even if we answer their questions with a few simple sentences, our answer will remain in the deepest part of their being. They may ask a simple question about dealing with their parents; if we are weighty, even a simple response will give them a deep impression. Our response will change their human life. This is what we must give people when we contact them through door-knocking. We must be prepared to do this.
