I have a Friend, whose faithful love Is more than all the world to me: ’Tis higher than the heights above, And deeper than the soundless sea; So old, so new, So strong, so true; Before the earth received its frame, He loved me—Blessed be His name!

It was a lonely path He trod, From every human soul apart; Known only to Himself and God Was all the grief that filled His heart, Yet from the track He turned not back, Till where I lay in want and shame, He found me—Blessed be His name!

Then dawned at last that day of dread, When desolate, yet undismayed, With wearied frame and thorn-crowned head, He, God-forsaken, man-betrayed, Was then made sin On Calvary, And, dying there in grief and shame, He saved me—Blessed be His name!

Long as I live my song shall tell The wonders of His dying love; And when at last I go to dwell With Him His sovereign grace to prove, My joy shall be His face to see, And bowing there with loud acclaim I’ll praise Him—Blessed be His name!
As a young person this song supplied me richly with Love for our Lord. When I got older and a good friend had past away a brother reminded me of this hymn. He saved me. Blessed be His name. Lord Jesus, we love You. Come quickly, Lord.
Today not many Christians are open to the Lord and open to the Spirit to live by the spirit. In their conversations with one another, many brothers and sisters can easily speak about heaven, the earth, politics, the world, children, and many things, but when it is time to pray, their eyes close, and their spirits also become closed. The flow of the Holy Spirit stops, and they fall into mere human conduct. In the prayer meeting, an elder may signal with his eyes for a certain brother to call Hymns, #156. Then the elder may use his eyes to signal another brother to begin the time of prayer. Then the brother stands and reports on the items for prayer. When the praying begins, only a few pray. Some come to every meeting and offer long prayers, while everyone else in the meeting feels like they are being punished by being on their knees and eventually go to sleep.
