Life at best is very brief, Like the falling of a leaf, Like the binding of a sheaf, Be in time! Fleeting days are telling fast That the die will soon be cast, And the fatal line be passed, Be in time!

I am putting this hymn at the conclusion of my husband's biography. He went to be with the Lord in 2009, and played and sang this hymn in the 1940's. It bring back many memories.
I remember when we were growing up our choir use to sing this very song. When I lost my aunt, this very song was sang during her wake keep. Any time I remember, sing or hear this song I shared tears. Truly and indeed the word of the Lord is sure. Let the whole know that this life at its very best is brief indeed. Lord help me to make useful use of my time for You. This song is not only for the unsaved. Is both for the saved and unsaved.
I was humming this tune today and could only remember some of the words. What a blessing to know that I'm saved and in time. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. GOD IS LOVE.
"Life at best is very brief" I remember this song tonight as I ponder over the sudden call to glory of Brother Peter Yidawi, the General Secretary of Fellowship of Christian Nurses, Nigeria. I sang this song as a member of the Joint Campus Choir in the university in the 70s during mission outreach at beginning of new sessions during altar calls. Very heart rendering! Thank God I got all the stanzas on the Internet and I sang as in the days of old. Lord keep me faithful till the end!
In June 1978, a gospel meeting was arranged in the TB hospital, Asaripallam, Nagercoil. I was a young boy, watching my father playing the organ and the drummer. Bro. Antipas preached the word of God and this was the core song of the sermon and he preached on the vanity of life on earth but the eternal salvation through Jesus Christ. I have seen many TB patients accepted Jesus as their Saviour. Many would have died later but one day we can meet in the Lord's presence. This song was sung twice in the beginning and the end and it was so touching. Caleb Annan's voice was superb at that time.
C. It should be concluded that salvation must be in time. To be saved is not in eternity, although it is for eternity. Salvation must be in time. This time is this present life. This present life may be finished at any time. Give some examples and stories. Some who heard the gospel but did not believe it right away were killed in car accidents on their way home. Use some examples to prove that man's life may be finished at any time in this world. When time is past, eternity will come. Therefore, you must believe Him today. Sing verse 3 of hymn #1043 in Hymns.
1. Life, as vapor, quickly fades;
As a cloud, it dissipates;
As a dream, evaporates;
Be in time!
Flying time declares 'tis true:
In a flash, death faces you;
Just a little late, you're through;
Be in time!
Be in time! Be in time!
While the voice of Jesus calls you,
Be in time!
If in sin you longer wait,
You may find no open gate,
And your cry be just too late:
Be in time!
2. May the wise attentive hear:
Morning blooms soon disappear.
Who can bring back yesteryear?
Be in time!
Do your calculations fast,
Lest the line of death is passed,
And you into fire are cast;
Be in time!
3. Still the Spirit's touching you,
Often wrestling with you, too.
Why not yield, that peace ensue?
Be in time!
Jesus waits to give you grace;
Save you from your woeful case;
Don't wait foolishly! Make haste!
Be in time!
4. Sinners, heed this sage advice:
God's salvation, don't despise.
Choose the Savior in a trice!
Be in time!
Quickly, to His bosom fly;
Let Christ in your heart thereby;
While it's still today, draw nigh;
Be in time!
