Remove my covering, Lord, That I may see Thy light, And be deceived no more, But all things see aright. |
Oh, may Thy living light, Lord, Scatter all my night, Lord, And everything make bright, Lord, For this I pray to Thee. |

I hardly know myself; Deceived so much by pride, I often think I’m right And am self-satisfied. |
3
|
I know Thee even less; In doctrine, shallowly; True revelation lack Of Thy reality. |
4
|
As for Thy life within, In darkness I mistake— If spirit or the flesh, One for the other take. |
5
|
As for Thy way, O Lord, I often am not clear; I toward seclusion tend And from the pathway veer. |
6
|
As for Thy will for me, I do not know it well; I substitute my own And often would rebel. |
7
|
As for the church, I need Thy revelation more, The Body-life to know, Thy wisdom to explore. |
8
|
I long to be unveiled, In everything made clear, No more to be deceived Or to my pride adhere. |

William Howard Doane, writer of the music to this hymn, was born in Preston, Connecticut, February 3, 1831. He studied at Woodstock Academy, and afterwards acquired a musical education where he earned a Doctorate of Music at Denison University in 1875. He had an engineering and mechanical gift as well as a musical one, and patented more than 70 inventions. For several years, he was engaged with manufacturing both as employee and manager, but his interest for song-worship, Sunday-school and church work, never abated. Doane is better known as a choir trainer and composer of some of the best modern devotional tunes. His home was in Cincinnati Ohio. He passed away in 1915 at the age of 84.
He worked with Fanny Crosby for many years composing the music for many of her hymns.

Amen! Remove my covering Lord! I really received a supply of grace from this hymn today.
Tirane, Albania
Oh, may Thy living light, Lord,
Scatter all my night, Lord,
And everything make bright, Lord,
For this I pray to Thee.

I long to be unveiled,
In everything made clear,
No more to be deceived
Or to my pride adhere.
Oh, may Thy living light, Lord,
Scatter all my night, Lord,
And everything make bright, Lord,
For this I pray to Thee.
Remove my covering, Lord,
That I may see Thy light,
And be deceived no more,
But all things see aright.
Chorus
Oh, may Thy living light, Lord,
Scatter all my night, Lord,
And everything make bright, Lord,
For this I pray to Thee.
2 I hardly know myself;
Deceived so much by pride,
I often think I’m right
And am self-satisfied.
3 I know Thee even less;
In doctrine, shallowly;
True revelation lack
Of Thy reality.
4 As for Thy life within,
In darkness I mistake-
If spirit or the flesh,
One for the other take.
5 As for Thy way, O Lord,
I often am not clear;
I toward seclusion tend
And from the pathway veer.
6 As for Thy will for me,
I do not know it well;
I substitute my own
And often would rebel.
7 As for the church, I need
Thy revelation more,
The Body-life to know,
Thy wisdom to explore.
8 I long to be unveiled,
In everything made clear,
No more to be deceived
Or to my pride adhere.
Tirane, Albania
Oh, may Thy living light, Lord,
Scatter all my night, Lord,
And everything make bright, Lord,
For this I pray to Thee.

I wanna say I love this version although the other may be better. They both make me calm and make me remember those days in the States.
I love it. It helps me feel better. Oh Lord Jesus! Amen.
