About Numbered Notation

Numbered Notation (also called Jianpu, 简谱) writes each melody note as a number from 1 to 7 instead of a note on a staff. The number shows the note's position in the song's scale -- not its exact pitch -- so the same tune looks identical no matter what key it's sung in.

Within one octave, the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 correspond to the familiar do re mi fa sol la ti. A dot above a number raises it an octave higher; a dot below lowers it an octave lower -- no dot means the middle, as-written octave.

A plain number lasts one beat. A dash (-) right after a number holds that same note for one more beat. A line underneath a number shortens it instead -- one line is half a beat, two lines a quarter of a beat. A 0 is a rest: silence for one beat.

The label at the top of the sheet, like "1=C" or "1=Ab", shows which pitch scale degree 1 ("do") is tuned to. A song in a minor key is labeled "6=X" instead -- scale degree 6 ("la") is the true tonic. Chord names printed above the notes (like "C" or "G7") always use their familiar letter names, never numbers.

For example, under a "1=C" heading, the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 sound as C D E F G A B. Under a "1=G" heading, those very same numbers sound as G A B C D E F# instead -- same shape, different key.

Anyone Who Hears These Words

The Word of God General

New Songs702
1
Anyone who hears these words of mine and does them,
Shall be likened to a prudent man,
Who built his house upon the rock,
And the rain descended and the rivers came,
And the winds blew, and they beat against that house,
And it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
2
Lord, I thank You that I have the rock, Your wise words,
That reveal the Father’s will to me.
Put in me a heart that would respond,
And a will to choose the narrow way.
Make me prudent, Lord, for the building of Your house,
And I would not fall, for I’d be founded on the rock.

I really enjoyed reading this portion of the word and seeing it's connection to chapter 8 of Matthew. In chapter 8 of Matthew a centurion man tells the Lord to only speak a word and his servant will be healed. The Lord said this was such great faith. This gentile man recognized the Lord's authority, and even more recognized the authority of the Lord's word and believed in His word. The Lord's word reveals to us the Father's will. By seeing the Lord's response in v 11 about the overcoming gentile believers reclining at table in the kingdom of the heavens we see that this faith displayed, the faith in Christ and His word is truly the Father's will for us. It is by opening to the Lord's word and letting it have full authority over our living and work that we will enter in through the narrow gate and walk the constricted way.

Lord, we open to your words. May our living and work be founded on the rock. Whatever may come, rain, rivers, or winds, may they not fall.
