The old rugged cross

1
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
  The emblem of suff’ring and shame,
And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
  For a world of lost sinners was slain.
  So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
  And exchange it some day for a crown.
2
Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
  Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
  To bear it to dark Calvary.
3
In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
  A wondrous beauty I see;
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
  To pardon and sanctify me.

Thank God for Jesus the Christ who unashamedly carried our cross, we must also unashamedly identify with Him today as we witness the gospel. I'm not ashamed of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ for therein lies the power to save mankind. Hallelujah ❤️❤️❤️

On the cross all my sin was imputed to Him and all his righteousness was imputed to me.

He became sin for us that we may be made the righteousness of God in Him

This song was my precious Grandpa’s favorite hymn, and we sang it at his funeral. I can never sing it without shedding tears. Tears because I miss him so much, tears because I’m grateful that he was a wonderful Christ-like example in my life and left a wonderful legacy for our family. Imagining my Gramps exchanging his old rugged cross for a crown brings me comfort. I look forward to my reunion with him someday!
