And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?

Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

’Tis mystery all! The Immortal dies!

He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness Divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,

Glorious words. I just finished shedding tears. From Acts 12, my chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth and followed Thee. Exactly what happened to me in 1957 when I was 13. Now, at age 80, am going to copy the words to put into my Bible. Black woman born in and residing in Bermuda. THANK you for the lyrics!

Charles Wesley; each hymn he wrote mirrored the Gospel. Wonderful and powerful indeed.

Thank you, for this app. I only found it this morning. My quiet times with the Lord, will be even more worshipful.
Thank you.

In our Church, the last line of each verse is repeated as a refrain. More often now the refrain is only the last line of the first verse: Amazing love...
For me, much is lost in this. The line from the 4th verse beginning: My chains fell off... when repeated was a breakthrough moment for me in my Christian journey. These words alone come back to me often as a reminder of what Jesus Christ did and who He is.

I am Encouraged, lifted up and humbled by the spiritual and scriptural contents of this song. The song reminded of the great redemption I received upon acceptance of Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior.
nice song

Amazing love! how can it be...
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Amen. I Love Jesus Christ!
