Young David had a sweet relationship
With Jehovah, whom he loved.
David knew the Lord as his Shepherd
And His tender care from above.

He’s so rich and marvelous!

O dear Lord, in Thee we trust!”

The Lord “sought a man according to His heart,”
David, as Jesse’s eighth son.
Even though “he was but a youth,”
He was God’s anointed one.

When David found himself in deep distress,
To Jehovah he would cry:
“O Jehovah, Thou art my refuge,
And my source of endless supply!”

As David fought “the battles of Jehovah,”
God was his strength and shield,
And the rock of his salvation;
He called, “O Lord!” the vict’ry to wield!

The Lord appointed David as ruler,
Over God’s people as king.
He would serve according to God’s counsel,
Writing psalms that now we can sing.
