The Great Physician now is near

The Great Physician now is near,
  The sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
  Oh, hear the voice of Jesus!

Sweetest note in seraph song;
Sweetest name on mortal tongue;
Sweetest carol ever sung:
    Jesus, blessed Jesus!
2
Your many sins are all forgiv'n,
  Oh, hear the voice of Jesus;
The veil 'twixt you and God is riven,
  Redemption wrought by Jesus.
3
All glory to the dying Lamb!
  I now believe in Jesus;
I love the blessed Savior's name,
  I love the name of Jesus.
4
His name dispels my guilt and fear,
  No other name but Jesus;
Oh, how my soul delights to hear
  The precious name of Jesus!

Wonderful! Tried to find this hymn in my "old church hymnal" and couldn't. Now I have a healthy respect for sites like these. Was amazed that you would have the words. Thank you, thank you!

My cousin's daughter is in the hospital and sent to ask for prayers. I quoted the first two lines to him and started singing the chorus afterwards. I grew up in Jamaica singing this song at church especially in prayer meetings or to start prayers for healing. The Great Physician is still in business! Praise the wonderful and powerful name of Jesus!

Whatever inward conflict or infirmity we are cumbered with we can cast ourself down at His feet, He never did nor will He ever turn the needy suppliant away but will send him away rejoicing.

What is your petition?

Mine is......

What is it that shall be done unto thee?

Lord, that You may give me to look away from all that distracts, even from felt deficiencies of what I see a Christian is to be in his temper and love, to look unto You alone for only as I behold Thee as Thou art am I transformed into the beautific likeness.

Can't hold tears streaming down my eyes this morning as I heard this song in worship form. it stirs up my spirit man and awakens my heart to Jesus' infallible love for me. Keep listening, it's a good antidote for a depressed soul in despair.

Praise God Brethren,

Hope you all had a blessed weekend. Mine was fair, nursing a breakup can be challenging but with God's love, HE makes us go through well. I listened to this song a lot while I was at a Seventh Day school, Seventh day are people who love to sing a lot. This morning I woke up and had this song in mind. Google helps me usually. I will listen to it as I work the whole day. This song keeps me lots lots of hope, faith and love. Be blessed Brethren.

I live in Canada. When I was a young man I spent a year in Kenya, I used to hear the workers singing this song in Kiswahili. I did not understand the words , when I came home to Canada I was in a church service and they sung it in English. Finally I realized what I had been hearing in Africa! In Africa they sung it with a beautiful African rhythm. God Bless you my African brothers and sisters, keep on singing.....

Hello there,

Jesus is risen, so the song should be,

All glory to the risen Lamb!

Thanks a lot and God bless you all.

The kind of song one will call a spiritual song.

Revised version:

1. The Great Physician now is near,

The sympathizing Jesus;

Sin's wounds, exhaustion disappear—

Draw quickly near to Jesus.

Jesus bore the cross for you,

Your sins' heavy burden, too;

Now He wants to heal you;

Quickly come to Jesus.

2. Your many sins are all forgiv'n,

If you will come to Jesus!

When conscience smites, you'll peace be giv'n

When you draw near to Jesus!

3. Corrupted nature, sin-stained heart,

All find their cure in Jesus;

All weakness, sighs, disease depart,

When you draw near to Jesus.

4. Man's life is gloomy, painful, dry;

Why not draw near to Jesus?

The living water He'll supply;

Oh, come draw near to Jesus!

5. Now healed and full released I am,

For I've received Christ Jesus;

All glory to the smitten Lamb!

I now believe in Jesus.

Jesus' bonds have set me free;

Jesus' wounds have healed me;

Jesus' death brought life to me;

Jesus! I have Jesus!

6. My gracious Savior's name's so dear;

The name I love is Jesus!

Dispelling misery, so near,

No other name but Jesus!

Fragrant name—saints' praises ring!

Honored name—the angels sing!

Name excelling, all-supreme:

Jesus! Precious Jesus!

7. When I'm that day to Him brought near,

Brought face to face with Jesus,

E'en more I'll glorify and cheer:

O Jesus! Precious Jesus!
