This hymn is a strong exhortation to heed the Spirit's speaking to the churches in Revelation 2:7:

"To him who overcomes, to him I will give to eat of the Tree of Life which is in the Paradise of God." We must overcome the degradation of the churches by eating the Tree of Life, that is to live in the mingled Spirit moment by moment.
