What a Friend we have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus all our sins and grief to bear what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer, there is no other friend who can bear our sins and our grief but Jesus Christ, thank you Jesus for your grace and mercy Amen 🙏🏾

I awoke in the night with the lyrics of this song in my mind. I learned the song as a child and haven’t sung it in years. The words helped provide encouragement to me as I go through a difficult time. “Thank You, Father, for Your nearness, love, and power. ”

This song was inspired by a poem that a man who went through unimaginable grief wrote. His name is Joseph and was born in Ireland. He fell in love with a woman and the day before he married her , she passed away. He them moves to Canada to start over and falls in love again with another woman named Eliza. Weeks before their wedding, she also passes away as well. he then gets news that his mother is about to pass away as well, but not having the funds to go and see her, he writes her a poem, a letter to his dying mother . In that letter he writes, "What a friend we have in Jesus..." That's someone who has a real friendship with God and trusts His goodness. Even with more grief coming, he can still talk of Jesus' friendship. Can you?

Whenever I have problems I sing this song.

I say to myself and others, Take it to the Lord in Prayer. Every word of this songs lift my spirit up.

I truly love and praise our precious heavenly father for inspiring this beautiful encouraging comforting hymn. we all need to remember that we are all truly blessed beyond all measure for our precious gift. Jesus Christ died for us all.
