The long, long night is past, the morning breaks at last;
And hushed the dreadful wail and fury of the blast,
As o'er the golden hills the day advances fast!
    The Comforter has come!
The long, long night is past, the morning breaks at last;
And hushed the dreadful wail and fury of the blast,
As o'er the golden hills the day advances fast!
    The Comforter has come!

Lo, the great King of kings, with healing in His wings,
To every captive soul a full deliv'rance brings;
And through the vacant cells the song of triumph rings:
    The Comforter has come!
Lo, the great King of kings, with healing in His wings,
To every captive soul a full deliv'rance brings;
And through the vacant cells the song of triumph rings:
    The Comforter has come!

O boundless love divine! how shall this tongue of mine
To wond'ring mortals tell the matchless grace divine—
That I, a child of hell, should in His image shine!
    The Comforter has come!
O boundless love divine! how shall this tongue of mine
To wond'ring mortals tell the matchless grace divine—
That I, a child of hell, should in His image shine!
    The Comforter has come!

Because the Comforter is here my fears are over and my victory is sure.

While trying to write my Sunday School Notes of Lesson on 'The Baptism of the Holy Ghost for believers with signs following' I remembered my childhood song - The Comforter has Come -only the first stanza. Searching the Internet, I am captivated by the lyrics of all stanzas

Glory be to God, Amen

I've refused to recover from the lyrics & melody of this song. It kept ministering to my spirit day - night & making me soar in the Holy Spirit. May the Comforter comfort Nigeria in Jesus name. Shalom!

This is one of the songs I learned as a child. For a very long time I have not sang it. But, in the early hours of today while praying, the song kept ringing in my mind. Thank God when I search in the Internet I found it.. Indeed the Comforter has come.

The Comforter has. come happens to be our theme for 2021. I remembered this song and decided to search for it. I think this song can also run as our anthem. May 2021 be the year God will comfort us from every difficult situations we have gone through in the past years. Praise the Lord, the Comforter has come.

I woke up this morning with this song in my mind, today being the last day of the year 2020. After this dreadful year ravaged with plague, crisis and series of hiccups, I finally found a solace in this hymn. Hallelujah!

This song was "the anthem of the Azusa Street revival" from 1906 - 1915.

'In one of its very derogatory articles about the Azusa Street revival, The Los Angeles Times said, "They repeatedly sing the same song, ‘The Comforter Has Come. ’”'

------

I think the hymnal. net version is the original.

Most versions have the 4th line of the chorus as:

The Father's promise giv’n;

Which I think is an improvement.

-----------------------

There is also a 5th stanza, usually left out, for good reason, I think.

5 Sing till the echoes fly above the vaulted sky,

And all the saints above to all below reply,

In strains of endless love, the song that ne’er will die:

The Comforter has come!
