Though coming weak and vile,
  Thou dost my strength assure;
Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse,
  Till spotless all, and pure.
Though coming weak and vile,
  Thou dost my strength assure;
Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse,
  Till spotless all, and pure.

'Tis Jesus who confirms
  The blessed work within,
By adding grace to welcomed grace,
  Where reigned the power of sin.

By adding grace to welcomed grace,
  Where reigned the power of sin.

And He the witness gives
  To loyal hearts and free,
That every promise is fulfilled,
  If faith but brings the plea.
And He the witness gives
  To loyal hearts and free,
That every promise is fulfilled,
  If faith but brings the plea.

All hail, redeeming blood!
  All hail, life-giving grace!
All hail, the gift of Christ our Lord,
  Our strength and righteousness.
All hail, redeeming blood!
  All hail, life-giving grace!
All hail, the gift of Christ our Lord,
  Our strength and righteousness.

E. IN HIS DEATH

1. Giving Himself for the BelieversThat He Might Redeem Themand Purify to Himself a Peoplefor His Own Possession as His Peculiar Treasure

2. Giving Himself for the Church

Ephesians 5:25 tells us that Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. Christ’s loving the church and giving Himself up for her was for redemption and for the impartation of life. According to John 19:34, blood and water came out of the Lord’s pierced side. The blood was for redemption, and the water was for the impartation of life so that the church might come into existence. In Ephesians 5:25 we have the church coming into existence through Christ’s loving her and giving Himself up for her.

THE CONCLUSION

OFTHE NEW TESTAMENT

Message 70 (LSM)

The Lord was crucified definitely and physically. With nails in His hands and His feet, He hung on a wooden cross probably for six hours, from nine o’clock in the morning until three o’clock in the afternoon. During the first three hours, man did everything possible to mock Him. Then in the last three hours God came in to judge Him as our substitute. As God was judging Him, Christ shed His blood to redeem us. Out of His side came blood and water: blood for redemption and water for the release of life. Therefore, by His crucifixion, Christ accomplished redemption and released the divine life.
