I hear Thy welcome voice,
That calls me, Lord, to Thee,
For cleansing in Thy precious blood
That flowed on Calvary.

I am coming, Lord,
Coming now to Thee:
Wash me, cleanse me in the blood
That flowed on Calvary.

Though coming weak and vile,
Thou dost my strength assure;
Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse,
Till spotless all, and pure.

’Tis Jesus who confirms
The blessed work within,
By adding grace to welcomed grace,
Where reigned the power of sin.

And He the witness gives
To loyal hearts and free,
That every promise is fulfilled,
If faith but brings the plea.

All hail, redeeming blood!
All hail, life-giving grace!
All hail, the gift of Christ our Lord,
Our strength and righteousness.

"And He the witness gives..."

This line reminded me of these verses:

And from Jesus Christ, the faithful Witness, the Firstborn of the dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has released us from our sins by His blood.

Revelation 1:5

And to the messenger of the church in Laodicea write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the beginning of the creation of God:

God has given us Christ to be our witness. As our witness He is the Amen. Amen, from Hebrew, means firm, steadfast, or trustworthy. The Lord is the firm, steadfast, and trustworthy One. Hence, He is the faithful and true Witness. This indicates that we in ourselves are not firm, steadfast, trustworthy, or faithful and true as the Lord's witness. This is why we need the Lord's blood.

The Lord as our Witness is also the first or beginning. The beginning of the creation of God refers to the Lord as the origin or source of God's creation, implying that the Lord is the unchanging and ever-existing source of God's work. This indicates that when we leave our source we become degraded and need to take the blood.

Praise God for such a faithful and true Witness in Jesus Christ: faithful to wash us, firm enough to keep us, true in His promises, and unchanging in all that He is to us!

Each morning I need the blood, but there are days where I sense I need the blood more than other times because there is much to confess and deal with. It is in those times where I have no strength to come; where I'd rather run and hide in my shame and guilt from the Lord, and distract myself from dealing with Him that I by "faith bring the plea": Spirit help me. Then I utter these simple words to turn my heart and direct my feet: "I am coming, Lord"

We all need to see a vision of the throne of grace, and that the real overcoming is not in our perfection but in receiving the blood of the Lamb. Amen.
