The love of God is greater far

  Mode: MP3/MIDI
  1. The love of God is greater far
      Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
    It goes beyond the highest star
      And reaches to the lowest hell.
    The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
      God gave His Son to win;
    His erring child He reconciled
      And pardoned from his sin.
    • O love of God, how rich and pure!
        How measureless and strong!
      It shall forevermore endure
          The saints' and angels' song.
  2. When hoary time shall pass away,
      And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall;
    When men who here refuse to pray,
      On rocks and hills and mountains call;
    God's love, so sure, shall still endure,
      All measureless and strong;
    Redeeming grace to Adam's race—
      The saints' and angels' song.
  3. Could we with ink the ocean fill,
      And were the skies of parchment made;
    Were every stalk on earth a quill,
      And every man a scribe by trade;
    To write the love of God above
      Would drain the ocean dry;
    Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
      Though stretched from sky to sky.

May 6, 2012Edson SiwellaCape Town, W Cape, South AfricaBlessed be the Lord who has committed into your capable hands the digitization and tune production of these great hymns... Yes, I did not really know this, but now have learned a great one: the Love of God.
Keep doing the work, and soon, very soon we shall be singing hallelujahs together - yes TOGETHER before the One who sits on the throne of grace.
Niyabulela!!! Ke a le boha

Dec. 23, 2011Bill ChellbergWheaton, IL, United StatesHere is the story of the writing of this hymn: Words: Frederick M. Lehman; he wrote this song in 1917 in Pasadena, California, and it was published in Songs That Are Different, Volume 2, 1919. The lyrics are based on the Jewish poem Haddamut, written in Aramaic in 1050 by Meir Ben Isaac Nehorai, a cantor in Worms, Germany; they have been translated into at least 18 languages.
One day, during short intervals of inattention to our work, we picked up a scrap of paper and, seated upon an empty lemon box pushed against the wall, with a stub pencil, added the (first) two stanzas and chorus of the song…Since the lines (3rd stanza from the Jewish poem) had been found penciled on the wall of a patient’s room in an insane asylum after he had been carried to his grave, the general opinion was that this inmate had written the epic in moments of sanity.

Oct. 30, 2011Fadzai FudzaiRobben Island, South AfricaLearned this song at a Family Life Sernmina-SDA conducted by Pastor Festas Nhari. His sermons where he preached of forgivenss and reinstatement and forgivenss and reconciliation. Singing this song as a theme song made me relaise the magnitude and broad of God's love. It will be my song forever more.

Oct. 11, 2011Ron WallaceMedford, Oregon, United StatesThis song "The Love of God" is such a thoughtful expression of brief yet powerful truth. I can't say how long I have known the song. But just when needed most it has long been an aid to focus my attention toward our precious Lord. May God richly bless every listener and or reader of this famous old hymn.

Oct. 4, 2011Judi JemsonColumbus, OH, United StatesI love this hymn because my beloved parents always sang it to me all my life. It's precious to me just like my Saviour that they led me to and just like them! Verse three always makes me cry! Hallelujah!! Singing it to my dear husband of 29 years now.... Oh, how glorious the Love of God!!!

Aug. 6, 2011Stephanie StoverBethlehem, PA, United StatesI was not familiar with this hymn, but I really like the music and the words. I find them very moving. Thank you for sharing it!

May 19, 2011Janet WatkinsGainesville, Ga., United StatesOf all the songs ever written this song has touched my life more than words can say. It has ministered to me in my weakest moments and has touched me in my most joyful times. His love is immeasurable. It truly goes to the lowest hell but it still reaches to the highest star. It has in my life!

Apr. 11, 2011Michael HarrisonKington, St. Andrew, JamaicaThis song evokes tears of gratitude and amazement each time I hear it. Its poetic lines engave a poignant message on my mind and heart of the extent of God's love to have given us earth and though we have spoiled it terribly He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to remind us of His love and the way He wants us to live...real life...not the 'dying' kind of life. The last stanza ultimately describes how fledgling and vain our attempt to capture in words, the wonder, the sacrificial meaning and the definitive extent of God's love would be. It can only be summed up against the image of Christ's cross! That God would rip apart something of Himself...of His unsurpassable deity...His Son...whose name is the song of heaven...whose brightness and glory outs the sun's light...could come to a sorry earth and disgracefully allow His creation to mistreat Him...The thrill of it is ineffable! Oh may I live my life in the full awareness of the depth of God's love and mercy intertwined in presenting mankind, His beloved creation, the plan of salvation.
