The love of God is greater far

1
The love of God is greater far
  Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
It goes beyond the highest star
  And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
  God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled
  And pardoned from his sin.
  O love of God, how rich and pure!
  How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
    The saints’ and angels’ song.
2
When hoary time shall pass away,
  And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall;
When men who here refuse to pray,
  On rocks and hills and mountains call;
God’s love, so sure, shall still endure,
  All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
  The saints’ and angels’ song.
3
Could we with ink the ocean fill,
  And were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
  And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
  Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
  Though stretched from sky to sky.

O this is my favorite part right now:

"When men who here refuse to pray,

On rocks and hills and mountains call;

God’s love, so sure, shall still endure,"

This song has so rich a message that speaks to me afresh everytime am listening, singing or reading it. It's a complete sermon that speaks volumes of the love of God. It goes beyond the highest star to the lowest hell. We are always engulfed in His enduring love.

Amen

I heard the last verse was found written on the wall of a person who was in the room of an insane asylum. It was written by the person who was the patient in the room who had just passed away. It was mentioned in the sermon of the minister who was preaching that night of my visit to that church. The minister said; "it is such an encouragement to me that a poor patient in an insane asylum apparently found the Lord evidently just weeks before he died. And wrote about his glorious experience on the wall of his hospital room ".

Rev. Branton, that wouldn't surprise me one bit about the demented man! I think I've heard that story before. The love of God can definitely reach that far. Were we not all demented in our own sinful lives before Jesus?

I heard the wonderful story of how the lyrics were written on the radio station, BBN (Bible Broadcasting Network). It really touched my heart!! However, I cannot remember all the details. Do you have that story and can you share it? I would so appreciate it!

Indeed...... what a great love!!! This love can not be found in mere flesh but in the Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

No greater love hath no man than this than when a man lay down his life for his friend!!!

The last verse draws such a picture of the vastness of our God’s love. So much so, in fact, I have yet to read that verse out loud without crying.

This song came to me from memory as I sat down at the piano. It has flooded my heart and mind for several days now. The lyrics are POWERFUL and TRUE. Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
