The Church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word:
From heav’n He came and sought her
To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.
Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation
By water and the Word:
From heav’n He came and sought her
To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.

Elect from every nation,
Yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.
Yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

’Mid toil and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

Yet she on earth hath union
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
In love may dwell with Thee.
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly,
In love may dwell with Thee.

I love this song and I love singing hymns. I find them so comforting. God bless you all my brothers and sisters in Christ. I love all of you.
The older I get the hymns of my youth surface more and more! As a child you sing the words without fully grasping the meaning and now in my 70’s the meanings speak volumes and really resonate. This morning I woke up with this song on my mind - so thankful for my upbringing and the love of God!
I just love this beautiful hymn. It brings tears 😭

No more powerful words can be written about the Gospel message. Brings weeping every time I sing it.

I woke up this morning with this song in my spirit. Indeed the Holy Spirit desires that the church will be one. It's my prayer that the prayer of Jesus in John 17 will become a reality before His second coming in Jesus name. God bless the writer of this song.

While trying to fall asleep this hymn came into my mind. I sung it in my Episcopal school chapel. To have a manditory chapel was a blessing not and not 'a drag' I would like to find a choir rendition of course. I believe every word in this song is true but the 'church' needs revival so badly now.

Lord, give us grace to keep us coming to You that we may take Your yoke, and learn from You to be infused with Your meekness and gentleness that we may inherit the earth in the coming Kingdom of God! Lord, keep us coming to You to be meek and lowly in heart ❤️ 🙏

This hymn is really inspiring, just returned from church and the spirit of God led me to this hymn. Thank you Lord for Jesus, one faith, one birth, my prayer is that after this race here on Earth we will also rejoice and sing in heaven
