I learned this beautiful hymn when I began school in 1948 and it has remained with me my whole life. I was born again in 1968 and began to understand what shining is. I look forward to shining eternally with all the saints in heaven

This little song is based on purported sayings of Jesus presented in Chapter 5 of the Gospel according to Matthew in the Christian Bible. Despite its apparent and disarming simplicity the message is very profound and sums up the whole of what is involved in being a follower of Jesus in any age. It is much more accessible and indeed challenging than what the best theologians can come up with. It never fails to move me.

Oh! this beautiful hymn that my dad sang to me when I was a small child if I woke up in the night. I am 68yrs old now and I have sung it to my grandchildren when they were small. May Our Lord bless each and every one of you, and may this hymn never be lost to time.

I love this song! When I was seven years old I lived in Taichung, Taiwan.
There were three missionaries from England who loved me and shepherded
