I was deeply moved when I read several of these comments. It's especially uplifting for me when I hear from fellow believers who reside in different countries than my own. Lately, I have been feeling sad and alone because it seems like it's hard to find true practicers of the Faith around me. So, thank you for leaving your comments, they were a great blessing to my soul 😊❤
I listened to this hymn a few days ago. I have known and sang it for years, but it made me very emotional this time around. I can't get it out of my head! Am thinking about the loving wonderful face of Jesus, looking down at me. I visualize the love , grace of a mother holding a baby in their arms, and the security the baby feels knowing that everything else around is diminished and insignificant because of the love in those comforting eyes.
'The light of His Glory and Grace' makes all other things small! What comfort!
My work remains to deliberately turn my eyes, shift focus, look to where there is that wonderful face. May He continue to guide the movements of my neck!
Thanks so much to the previous writer for the background to this song.
"There's light for a look at the Saviour and life more abundant and free."
This is no ordinary look or mere glance. According to the type of the bronze serpent in Numbers 21:8-9, the one who wanted to be healed needed to " look attentively, expectantly and with a steady and absorbing gaze" [Amp Bible].
Hellen Howard Lemmel (1864-1961) was born in Wardle, England. Her father was a Wesleyan Methodist Pastor. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was 12. They lived in Mississippi before settling In Wisconsin.
Ms. Lemmel had a reputation of being a brilliant singer. She studied private voice in Germany for four years. In the 1900’s she gave concerts throughout the Midwest. She also taught voice in Moody Bible Institute as well as Bible Institute in LA. In 1961, Hellen moved to Seattle and served actively at Ballard Baptist Church.
Ms. Lemmel wrote 500 hymns and poems. She also wrote a successful children’s book (Story of the Bible) and composed several children’s music pieces.
This hymn was written by Ms. Lemmel In 1922 at the age of 54. It is also known as “The Heavenly Vision”- she also wrote the music. It was inspired by a track she received from a missionary friend in 1918 called “Focused: A Story and Song” written by Isabella Lilias, an English artist and missionary to Muslims in Algeria.
I have been blessed by this song for many years. Yesterday I was at the local VA Medical center for treatment of macular degeneration in my left eye. I suggested to staff members that this should be the theme song of the medial clinic, knowing that they would not and could not, but I sang it in the halls while there. Certainly made me feel better - as well as many of the people who heard it and commented!
I had cataract surgery 3 days ago. This song is on my heart today. I’m praying for greater vision of the Father. The only way to get that is by looking ( with literally better vision ) straight into the EYES of His Son!! Yeshua !
