Oh, let me feel Thee near me; The world is ever near; I see the sights that dazzle, The tempting sounds I hear; My foes are ever near me, Around me and within; But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer, And shield my soul from sin.
Oh, let me feel Thee near me;
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.

Oh, let me hear Thee speaking, In accents clear and still, Above the storms of passion, The murmurs of self-will; Oh, speak to reassure me, To hasten, or control; Oh, speak, and make me listen, Thou Guardian of my soul.
Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
To hasten, or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.

Oh, let me hear Thee
A
speaking,
In

B7
Above the storms of
Em
passion,
The
E7
murmurs of
A
self-will;
Oh,
D
speak to reassure
A
me,
To

hasten, or
D
control;
Oh,
B7
speak, and make me
Em
listen,
Thou
D
Guardian
A7
of my
D
soul.

Oh, let me see Thy footmarks, And in them plant mine own; My hope to follow duly Is in Thy strength alone. Oh, guide me, call me, draw me, Uphold me to the end; And then to rest receive me, My Savior and my Friend.
My School was Anglican leaning, we sang hymes at the morning assembly for 5 years. The hymns book was called Ancient and Modern, brown paper back, a requirements for admission, this particular hymn was one of my favorites. I still relish it deeply.
I sang this song in High School in Jamaica and today post elections and in the midst of a pandemic, it came to mind powerfully. God is in control!!! I am a child of God!
I am reading my prayers of the day and following a service for the day, at home by myself. I miss being able to sing hymns in church during the current measures we need to follow. So I have been going through a list of my favourite hymns, and singing out of tune by myself to all my favourites. Then when I came to this Oh Jesus I have promised, it lit me up, the sun suddenly shone through the blinds and a warm internal glow flowed through me. Always loved this hymn.
I remember singing this in my school assembly aged 9. For the first time I realised that the writer appeared to have a real and personal relationship with God. I wondered if this were possible or true but declared in my heart that if it were I wanted it too. Aged 18 and an atheist, God graciously revealed Himself to me. I knew my life could never be the same again and received Him as my Lord, Saviour and Friend.
Sweet Holy Spirit, thank you for reminding me of my promise to you. Please, help me to serve you till the end. In and of my own I lack the ability to do this. Please help me. Please Holy Spirit. Help me. 🙏🙏🙏
At 73 years old, I woke up at around 5:30am this morning very concerned about my future in this time of the Covid-19 Pandemic and Government Elections when this Old favourite Hymn entered my thoughts. I was reminded that over 60 years ago as I child in High School I promised to serve Jesus to the end.
I searched for the Lyrics on Google and was reminded of Jesus' promises to all who follow Him. I was overwhelmed with gratitude! Thank you my Saviour, my King, and my Friend, Christ Jesus!
