Dear Lord, Thou art the Tree of Life

Praise of the Lord His All-Inclusiveness

English198
1
Dear Lord, Thou art the Tree of Life,
The very life supply;
Thy fruits, replete with life divine,
Our hunger satisfy.
2
Thou art the true and heav’nly Vine,
Our very source of life;
By Thee we live, in Thee abide,
And rest from all our strife.
3
Dear Lord, Thou art the Apple Tree,
Thyself we all enjoy;
Thy fruits are sweet to all our taste,
Thy shadow brings us joy.
4
Thou art to us the healing Tree;
Our death Thou didst endure;
Thou on a tree for us wast slain,
That we may have Thy cure.
5
Thou art the very Branch of God,
His fullness dwells in Thee;
In Thee we take of Him as grace
And the reality.
6
Lord, Thou art also David’s Branch
Incarnate here to be;
In Thee we see and comprehend
The true humanity.
7
Thou art the sprouting Rod with God,
In Thee is endless life;
Before Thy resurrection pow’r
Death never can be rife.
8
Thou also art the swimming Stick,
The fallen “ax” are we;
By Thine uplifting pow’r of life,
From death we’re lifted free.
9
Lord, Thou art such a “Plant of Fame,
Of Thee we richly share;
As we are here remembering Thee,
Thyself we thus declare!

THE TREE OF LIFE

After God created man, He placed him in a garden in front of the tree of life ( Gen. 2:8-9 ). Thus, immediately after the creation of man, the tree of life was mentioned. The tree of life is one of the outstanding features of the New Jerusalem. Revelation 22:14 indicates that the tree of life is in the New Jerusalem. This verse says, “Blessed are those who wash their robes that they may have right to the tree of life and may enter by the gates into the city. ” In the first two chapters of the Bible we see the old heaven, the old earth, the old garden, Adam, and the tree of life. In the last two chapters of the Bible we see the new heaven, the new earth, and the city with the tree of life. In this city we do not see Adam but Israel and the apostles representing the new man. In the garden in Genesis there was the old man; in the city in Revelation there is the corporate new man. In the garden there was the tree of life, and in the city there is also the tree of life. Although the heaven and earth have changed, the garden has been changed into the city, and the first man has been changed into the corporate new man, the tree of life remains unchanged. Everything has been changed or improved except the tree of life. From the beginning to the end, the tree of life remains the same. Hallelujah, the tree of life never changes!

The reference to the Lord as the Lord as a “Plant of Fame" in stanza 9 is from Ezek 34:29 "And I will raise up for them a planting place of renown, and they will no longer be consumed with famine in the land and no longer bear the disgrace of the nations." The King James version renders this as "a plant of renown".

Our Christ is the sprouting Rod with God! In Him is endless life!

Hebrews 9:4 says "Having a golden altar and the ark of the covenant covered about everywhere with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna and Aaron's rod that budded and the tablets of the covenant"

In the ark is the budding rod signifying the resurrected Christ in our spirit.

The budding rod signifies that Christ, the resurrected One, should be our life, our living, and the resurrection life within us, and that this life should bud, blossom, and bear almonds. Is the Christ within you budding? Do not say yes doctrinally, but answer according to your experience. (Life-Study of Hebrews, Chapter 62, Section 1)

In Stanza 8, He is the swimming Stick, and we are the fallen "ax". Just appreciate the footnotes in 2 Kings 6:6, float. Truly our Lord's death on the cross recovered us, the sinners. God made us alive by imparting His eternal life, which is Christ Himself into our dead spirit through His Spirit of life. Praise the Lord! He has enlivened us together with Christ (Eph. 2:5).

In Genesis chapter two we see the tree of life which is the symbol of Christ as life to us. This hymn has opened my eyes to see that throughout the Scriptures we see the marvelous unfolding of the revelation of Christ as the tree of life. He is so much! May we give ourselves to enjoy Christ as the tree of life throughout the Bible!
