Hmm...this is one of my favorite classic hymns and I just can't get tired of listening to those wonderful words tell of the power of Jesus as He comes and breaks the power of the Devil and take all pains away. I simply love this hymn.

The first time I heard this song was in the early 1950's when I was in the third grade one of my friends used to sing it and I never forget it. The title as I knew it from an old hymnal is When Jesus came. I guess in so ways we are all beggars and sometimes are blind.

I learned this hymn as a child and never forgot the first stanza. As I laid in bed one night some of the hurtful memories of my youth returned. I then had a dream. I was a beggar, sad, discouraged, and hopeless. Then, in my dream, Jesus came. He walked over to me, embraced me and my heart was filled with joy.

I remember my mother singing this as a solo in every church we attended while I was a child. I think it touched me then because I was an epileptic and I prayed for God to heal me. Another song I loved to hear her sing was "Stranger of Galilee."

I was touched by this song in the 70s when C.W Burpo used it as theme for his radio program. 40 years later it speaks to teens who cut themselves and idealists who wonder is there no solution to evil in the world. There is a triumphant solution. I have this translated into Japanese. Now I'm looking for sheet music to learn to sing this to anyone who needs an answer to their doubts with a touch and an "I will!"
