Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the Bright and Morning Star
Sheds its beams around me.

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadow o’er me.
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadow o’er me.
Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadow o’er me.
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day,
With its shadow o’er me.

Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I see my Savior’s face,
Leave His presence never.
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I see my Savior’s face,
Leave His presence never.
Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I see my Savior’s face,
Leave His presence never.
Hoping, trusting ever,
Till I see my Savior’s face,
Leave His presence never.

Wow! This brings back memories; baptist church in Cape Town: I am now 75 yrs old: I remember this hymn was sung when a call was made to give your heart to Jesus our Redeemer: a sister started singing this hymn.
I love this link; I have found so many childhood memories.
Sundays after lunch; someone starts singing and everyone joins in.
Always remember singing in the family: no matter what the occasion: and I still do that even now being alone.
alone? I do not think so with this link and new songs to learn; and old ones to sing as loud as I can: praising the Lord: wow: what a privilege: thank you again hymnal.net you bring so much joy to millions of people.
I tell everyone about your link. God bless.

Actually the love JESUS had for me, for dying a very painful and shameful death on the cross, makes me shed tears. OH JESUS REMEMBER ME IN PARADISE. AMEN.
In my depression the Holy Spirit directed me to the song and I feel better.

In the cross I was healed.
Because of the cross we are all free through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I’m having a restless night. Unable to sleep. The words, “Jesus keep me near the cross” came to mind and I felt compelled to read (not sing) the words to the entire song.
I want to remember these words when I’m in need of encouragement, so thank you for providing the lyrics.
