A mighty Fortress is our God

1
A mighty Fortress is our God,
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
2
Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God's own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth His Name,
From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
3
And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim,
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
4
That word above all earthly powers,
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.

The Spirit brought this hymn to my mind this morning when I read Psalm 48:3. What a blessing! I sang to my Lord this morning😃. I am looking forward to seeing HIM face to face without worry or fear. He is MIGHTY!

I was quietly thinking of this song this morning and could not remember all the lyrics. I found this site and with great delight sang this hymn out of my heart. What a wonderful inspiring song it is!

I couldn’t but help reading a few of the comments posted below and was thrilled to see some of my brothers in Nigeria posting as well. I have not been to Nigeria, but the Lord seems to have laid a burden on my heart for you dear brothers there. I am aware that many things are not well there and that many of you live with constant pressures of persecution. I know that I have it much easier than you, living here in America with the comforts and freedoms that I enjoy here, and so take for granted at times. I was so encouraged by the sounding ring of faith and victory in the words of your worship of our Lord. My heart was stirred, truly.

I want you to know dear Christians, that you have one brother over here that is not unaware nor unsympathetic of your walk in the Lord. I’m sure I cannot relate nor fully appreciate your challenges and hardships, but do know this. I feel myself close to you as I would my dearest brother here that I break bread with. Do we not drink of the same spirit? I will continue asking Him to help you to walk in such a way, as to be pleasing to Him.

I want to thank you again .... Nigerian Christians, for your witness and testimony. My heart was ‘strangely warmed’ as I walked upon the road.

given to you with much love,

will

Just waking up now with this song in my spirit. Searched and almost annoyed it is not in the hymn books I have. Googled it and chose your site. God bless you. We are in my nation at this time faced with the battle of evil against good. Threats of death to people. Killings everywhere. Jesus is Lord and we are more than conqueror through Him. Thank you.

Martin Luther’s inspirational words move us to believe in our Savior’s great accomplishments for us, in us and through us. Mortal men we may be but through divine strength and intervention, in Christ Jesus we are vindicated and immortalized as this hymn spurs us on to take heed, believe and endure. A Mighty Refuge Is Our God, indeed. Amen and amen again!
