Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've no cause for worry or for fear.
He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,

Every day the Lord Himself is near me,
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counsellor and Pow'r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
"As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,"
This the pledge to me He made.
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counsellor and Pow'r.

Help me then, in every tribulation,
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith's sweet consolation,
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E'er to take, as from a father's hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till with Christ the Lord I stand.
Help me then, in every tribulation,
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,

My faith isn't what it once was, undying and unquestioning, but in a way I feel that is good. Contemplating the meaning of our universe and our role in it is part of the free will and free thinking gift we received at the time of creation. This coming Sunday my sister and I will sing this hymn for my grandmother. It was one of my late grandfather's favorites, and I know that the moment will be special for everyone.

This is my all time favorite hymn. We sing it often in the Lutheran Church where I am a member. I have it closely by me at my home office desk. My son recently died in an accident at the age of 26. We sang it at his funeral on Dec 22, 2010 just before Christmas. All attending were comforted by it. Hopefully everyone who hears it can find as much comfort in it as I have through the years and especially now as I grieve the death of my oldest son.

My dear late father, Lindsay Reynolds, taught us to sing this hymn together in the car on long trips when I was a little girl. We would all sing in parts, and Dad would be the organ- providing the bass. The memory, and the hymn has been a source of comfort and encouragement to for some fifty years now, as my strong and loving earthly father taught me to trust in the loving provision of my heavenly father, who will, in the end, make all things right. May He be your comfort.

The person who wrote this song wrote it with a broken heart, at the loss of a father. It's very beautiful, but even more so now that my heart is breaking.

I'm starting to write an SATB choral arrangement for my High School Chamber Choir students of this wonderful hymn! It has always been one of my favorites because of the rich theology and beautiful melody. I pray that the Lord will use it to bring many to a saving knowledge of Himself. Soli Deo Gloria!

We found this song page in my grandma's purse the day after she passed away. We had her funeral yesterday. She will be missed but now when I hear this song I can think of her and the message of this song.

The words of this song came to me during my devotion this morning and I could not remember everything; I googled and got to this site. Awesome! I only knew the first stanza. I'm going through challenging times as a survivor of domestic violence and now single mom, it's like Lord, how could I have avoided all this. I will visit here again & again to drink from this fountain. God bless you.

I have always known this was an amazing and very beautiful song. Recently it has really been helping me through some trials of my own. These trials will always be with us until we are with Christ. I have been very blessed to grow up around true Christians and around missionaries. I have friends that have died and put in prison in China and Indonesia for their faith. Let's never forget to pray for those we do not know that are facing persecution all over this world. We must be ready to face whatever God sees fit to bring our way and trust Him. Thank you to the one from Korea for the scripture reference. It blessed my heart. Acts 16:31, James 1:12....Let us be patient and trusting in God for one day we will mount up with wings as eagles! God bless all those who believe and who are seeking Him.

It is so unique and beautiful, it displays the wonderful attributes of God, the depth of His love and compassion of His towards us. I believe it is just as effective today as the day it was written.

This song has never been one of my favorites until now, because of the way it is played. So sweetly. Thank you, Hymnal.net!
