Sometimes a light surprises

Sometimes a light surprises
  The Christian while he sings;
It is the Lord who rises
  With healing in His wings;
When comforts are declining,
  He grants the soul again
A season of clear shining,
  To cheer it after rain.
In holy contemplation
  We sweetly then pursue
The theme of God's salvation,
  And find it ever new;
Set free from present sorrow,
  We cheerfully can say—
E'en let the unknown morrow
  Bring with it what it may.
It can bring with it nothing,
  But He will bear us through;
Who gives the lilies clothing,
  Will clothe His people too:
Beneath the spreading heavens
  No creature but is fed;
And He, who feeds the ravens,
  Will give His children bread.
Though vine nor fig tree neither
  Their wonted fruit shall bear;
Though all the fields should wither
  Nor flocks nor herds be there;
Yet God the same abiding,
  His praise shall tune my voice,
For, while in Him confiding,
  I cannot but rejoice.

Waow!!!! What a hymn. Can be sung with so many tunes and all are splendid. This hymn is truly special. Rich in meaning and can lift a hopeless soul. The story behind the hymn is quite touching. Our God is awesome.

Very soulful song.

Always struggle to keep back tears each time I sing.

Lagos, Nigeria

One of my late father's favourite hymns and I love it even more for that reason. I find vs. 4 really inspiring!

Ohemaa Akosua Safowaa

Accra, Ghana

I heard this song today at the funeral of a great woman through whom God has lifted several people from grass to grace. Beautiful hymn.

Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria

The hymn always lifts my spirit up.

The wordings are so apt as I know that with God I am fine. I am blessed with very good thing. That God is my provider and I can trust Him.

It is awesome.

As the last words of the hymn

For while in Him confiding, I can not but rejoice. What a promise.

Adenike Onibokun
