I've seen the lightning flashing

When my dad was dying with brain cancer, I sent him a copy of this song. now I am faced with cancer, and this song is on my mind. I love it. I sang it as a child. a loving promise from our heavenly father. we are never alone.

Learnt as a child in Bible Class at the age of Seven and still remembers and love it at Eighty.

The words are very comforting and encouraging for alll times and seasons.

This song has been a comforting assurance to me just to think that Jesus has promised never to leave me alone. I live in that assurance and claim victory every day because with Him by my side nothing can conquer me.

What ever my state is, no matter what I'm going through, for sure He waiteth in glory on His throne till my return. Oh what a promise which energies my life everyday in this sinfully world. Praise God for His blood will never loose its power....

Oh it was nice to hear the song when you’re in a sorrowful moment. I love this song.

This hymn is good to sing during a thunderstorm.

Psalm 29 reminds me of this hymn. The last verse of the Psalm says that God gives strength to His people and blesses them with peace during storms.

Ludie Carrington Day Pickett was born in 1867. She was the wife of Leander Lycurgus Pickett, a Methodist evangelist who himself wrote music or lyrics for several hymns.The two of them were active in the Methodist church and in the founding of Asbury College in Kentucky (now Asbury University). Their son Jarrell W. Pickett went on to serve as a missionary to India for 46 years who, among other things, brought unprecedented medical care to India, organized volunteer work in Delhi, and met with presidents (Truman and Eisenhower) and prime ministers (Nehru) alike. - namethathymn

While traveling domestically and abroad this hymn is my blessed assurance and reminder that my God is Omnipresent.

This song is amazingly comforting even when you aren't going through anything. Temptations are always sharp and keen. We must be ready and equipped to let the God within us shine.

I sing this song with a uplifting spirit now knowing there is no known person who wrote this song but it was first heard in the 1800's so this had to be a slave song......God (promised to never leave them alone) praise God, hallelujah, amen....

I heard this song, one day before my dad expired.

It's like God promised me that HE is never gonna leave me alone, even when my earthly father passed away.

JESUS never let me alone.
