Wait and worship while the night

Lord of life, beneath the dome
Of the universe, Thy home,
Gather us, who seek Thy face,
To the fold of Thy embrace,
  For Thou art nigh.
Lord of life, beneath the dome
Of the universe, Thy home,
Gather us, who seek Thy face,
To the fold of Thy embrace,
  For Thou art nigh.

While the deepening shadows fall,
Heart of love, enfolding all,
Through the glory and the grace
Of the stars that veil Thy face,
  Our hearts ascend.
While the deepening shadows fall,
Heart of love, enfolding all,
Through the glory and the grace
Of the stars that veil Thy face,
  Our hearts ascend.

As the sun sets on this songs has been the song in my heart to close the Sabbath. The first stanza and the chorus says it all. He is indeed the Lord of all creation, Most Holy one who deserve my praise. Amen

The Sabbath was made for me. I love spending time with the Jesus on the Sabbath.

My 105 year old mother a Presbyterian missionary's daughter sang this with the missions group at evening devotions overlooking the ocean at Sori beach, Korea as a young woman at summer retreats.

Came upon this by chance. Brought back happy memories of singing it years ago. Shame it's out of fashion.

I love this whole song lyrics and melody. Excellent as Our Creator's Holy Sabbath for us sets in.

I learnt this hymn around the age of 8. I am now a senior and still love to sing it as I sit on my front porch watching the sun go down.

Sunset........... So very beautiful.

Mary Lathbury is regarded as one of the founders of the Chautauqua movement, which began as a Christian summer conference on Lake Chautauqua in western NY. The movement spread across the country, providing both Christian education and cultural development to thousands of believers.

At Chautauqua in 1877, Lathbury was asked to write an appropriate evening hymn for the conference. As she sat watching the sun disappear behind the trees, she was inspired to write the 1st 2 stanzas of this hymn. The 3rd and 4th [see 8/12/12 posting by Bro Lawrence] were written 2 years later. - Great Songs of Faith by Brown & Norton

I love this song. It was played at my 8th grade graduation on May 21, 1950.

I really love this Godly song. It is very precious and wonderful.

Chorus is different:

Near me! Near me! Near me!

I can draw nigh!

Heart and spirit long for Thee.

Long, Thy lovely face to see—

O Lord most nigh!
