Living for Jesus a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy [redemption],*
Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master,
My heart shall be Thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ, for Thee alone.
I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy [redemption],*
Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master,
My heart shall be Thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ, for Thee alone.

Living for Jesus who died in my place,
Bearing on Calv'ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.
Bearing on Calv'ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.

Living for Jesus wherever I am,
Doing each duty in His holy name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Living for Jesus through earth's little while,
My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.

Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.

NOT GIVING OURSELVES TO THE LORD BUT DENYING OURSELVES
---------------
The chorus of Hymns, #456 says, “O Jesus, Lord and Savior, / I give myself to Thee, / For Thou, in Thy atonement, / Didst give Thyself for me. ” There is also a problem with the chorus. It is difficult to find a verse in the Bible that says the Lord wants us to give ourselves to Him. On the contrary, the Lord wants us to deny ourselves. Not only does the Lord not want our self; He even tells us that we should not want our self. Why would we give the Lord something that He does not want? Why would we give the Lord something He wants us to give up? Even though this hymn is very poetic, the truth contained in the poetry is not very high.
We should never think that discerning the truth is an easy matter. In Matthew 16:21 the Lord Jesus said that He must go to Jerusalem to be killed and on the third day be raised. When Peter heard this, he took the Lord aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “God be merciful to You, Lord! This shall by no means happen to You! ” (v. 22). If we had been there, we would have shouted Amen and thought that Peter was right. But the Lord answered, “Get behind Me, Satan! ” (v. 23). Then He continued, “If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself” (v. 24). Hence, the Bible clearly tells us to deny ourselves; it does not want us to give ourselves to the Lord.
Perhaps some would say that Romans 6:13 says, “Neither present your members as weapons of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as alive from the dead, and your members as weapons of righteousness to God. ” They think that this verse speaks of presenting ourselves to God, but if we consider the context of this verse, we will see that yourselves does not refer merely to us as those who have been raised from the dead; it refers also to our members. Our members are part of our body. Romans 6 deals with the problem of sins. Sinning is mainly a matter of the body. Verse 6 says, “Knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be annulled, that we should no longer serve sin as slaves. ” This chapter refers to our bodies being put to death by the cross. Hence, yourselves in Romans 6 refers to our bodies. The Scripture is clear about this to the extent that it mentions not only our body but also our members. This means that yourselves in this chapter does not refer to the soul, the self.
Myself in the chorus of Hymns, #456 refers mainly to the person in our soul, not to our body. Strictly speaking, we cannot give ourselves to the Lord; we must instead put ourselves aside. This is what Paul says in Galatians 2:20 : “I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. ” The I, the self, in this hymn does not refer to the body but to the person, which is our natural I, the soul-life.

Such love constrains me! This is one of my favorite consecration hymns. I feel like we don’t sing this enough in the meetings, but it’s a sweet hymn to sing in secret to the Lord to freshly consecrate ourselves again. In the midst of our busy day-to-day activities and burdens, this line is a reminder of why we’re living: “My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ, for Thee alone. ”

This hymn is experiential. Living fo Jesus a life that is true. I did give myself to the Lord over 40 years ago. I can testify there is no better life. It is a life of value. When I think of my life so far it brings me to consecration. Oh Jesus Lord and Savior I give my life to you. I give my life to you where ever I am. I want to seek the lost ones you came to redeem and bring the weary to find rest in Him. This is the real life the true life. John 14:6 I am the way the truth and the life. How wonderful we can experience such a God.

Today I was reading 2 Corinthians 5:15, "And He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised." I thought of this wonderful hymn. Perfect.

💕 thank you for this website 🙏. I am sitting enjoying the Word of Life this morning and all of the sudden I started singing this chorus. Haven't heard it in years.. So I googled it and found it on your website.
I did use atonement as was how I learned it and actually think it more accurate.. I am still thankful for you and your work!! I was able to sing and praise the Lord!! What a great song!
Happy Thanksgiving!! I am thankful for my Jesus Lord And Savior ... praise His Holy Name!

The Lord woke me up with this song in the night. I am living for Him alone. Paul said I'd rather be with you Jesus in heaven but if it's better for me to be on earth for you. That's ok.
I'm 84, still hold 2 small Bible studies a week and pray for about everyone I meet. He truly is my everything. 🤗💖

The Holy Spirit brought this to my mind upon awakening - the first verse and chorus. How thankful I am that I could look it up! The remaining verses are a blessing! Thank You, Lord, for the songs you give me to sing in the morning, a perfect example of Your love and faithfulness - 86 years and counting!
