I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
  And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
  And be closer drawn to Thee.

Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
  By the pow'r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
  And my will be lost in Thine.
Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
  By the pow'r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
  And my will be lost in Thine.

O the pure delight of a single hour
  That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
  I commune as friend with friend!
O the pure delight of a single hour
  That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
  I commune as friend with friend!

There are depths of love that I yet may know
  Ere Thee face to face I see;
There are heights of joy that I yet may reach
  Ere I rest in peace with Thee.
There are depths of love that I yet may know
  Ere Thee face to face I see;
There are heights of joy that I yet may reach
  Ere I rest in peace with Thee.

Fanny wrote this favorite hymn in Cincinatti, OH. She was visiting her friend and collaborator, William H. Doane, in his home. The sun was setting, and their conversation turned to the nearness of God. Crosby was touched by their talk and wrote the words of this hymn before she retired that night. Doane added the music in the morning. It may be that the "friend to friend" communion in the 3rd stanza is an allusion to Crosby's fine friendship with Doane. - Great Songs of Faith by Brown & Norton

I love most of sister Fanny Crosby's songs. She did a great job. Surely she is in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ forever. I am Thine O Lord forever. Thank You for saving my soul. You are amazing, perfect and awesome! I love You Lord. Thanks for this wonderful website.

Sometimes you just want to hear a traditional hymn. This site is a blessing because often this is the only place you find those selections. Thank you!

I have been feelling low all day. A lot of things happening around me have not been encouraging. I found this site and this hymn ministered to me as it always has in time past. Now I am rededicating myself to live in HIS presence come what may.
