This hymn came to me clearly this morning. Specifically verse one. “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ my righteousness. ”! I must be reminded of this constantly. It is easy to depend on my good life style or Christian history or even some work. But my life must be built on Christ the rock. This is the sure foundation of my personal “house”. This righteousness is by faith in Christ Jesus and it is my hope of glory.

As Believers we stand before the Throne of God only on the basis of Jesus Blood and His Righteousness. I have no righteousness of my own apart from Yeshua. At my best, mine is as a filthy rag and allows me no audience before the Father.

To note: In almost every hymnal and the original poem the 2nd line of verse one reads, "than Jesus' blood and righteousness." The 3rd line of verse four is, "Dressed in His righteousness alone."
The only place I've seen it written this way is from a cover done decades ago by the Christian band "Glad." Better, I think, in its original wording.
